This program cosponsored with the UK Student Sustainability Council and the TJUC Green Sancturay Committee, launches Cultivating Connections new series: "Conversations We've Not Been Having". This inaugural event features story, myth, conversation and drumming to move us beyond the head and hand aspects of "Transition" to the deeper story it calls us to enter.

In her most recent book - Collapsing Consciously: Transformative Truths for Turbulent Times, Carolyn explores our current predicament of economic collapse, environmental degradation, and global conflict.

She comments on the confusion, anxiety, grief, anger, and despair we experience when honestly examining the state of the world. And ultimately, she invites us to explore the transformation from paralysis and powerlessness, to preparation and possibility.

CAROLYN BAKER, PhD, was a professor of history and psychology for 11 years and a psychotherapist in private practice for 17 years. Now, she is primarily an independent speaker, and author of six previous books, including Sacred Demise: Walking the Spiritual Path of Industrial Civilization's Collapse and Navigating the Coming Chaos: A Handbook for Inner Transition. "It is becoming increasingly clear to many of us that our culture is utterly inadequate to the enormous world crises that is now erupting on all sides. This clarity, is of course, extremely hard to sustain since it involves accepting that we are all entering together a whirlwind of ferocious ordeal at a time when the human race is profoundly unprepared and in a state of paralysis and deep denial.

- Without this clarity infusing and informing both our inner work and our outer engagement with the world, we are however doubly lost since it is only by knowing where we are and what faces us that we can begin to do what is necessary -- undertake a massive inner transformation to be strong and calm and passionate and focused enough not only to endure what is now inevitable, but to guide others through it, midwifing the transition."
