Our Place in the Universe
Exploring, Understanding and Caring about our future
A Summer Workshop for High School Students

This workshop is about the vibrant possibilities emerging from a new worldview. Learn about the stunning shift in our understanding of the universe and our place within it. See the world and your life through a new lens.

We live at a remarkable time in the history of humanity. Modern science has equipped us to understand how the universe has evolved - and will evolve. You'll learn that we don't live in a mean- ingless, mechanical universe, but one that changes and creates capacities to reinvent itself in new ways ... but not without our help.

Instructor Fr. Joe Mitchell helps explain that while humans may be a unique dimension of the Earth, we belong to a web of life - we are not separate from Earth, and each of us has an important role to play.

Reserve your place in advance.

Now in its fifth year the purposes of the Louisville Sustainability Forum are:

1.  We hold and promote the intention of sustainability for Louisville.

2.  We establish and nourish relationships that strengthen community and create change.

3. We create a space for discussion that inspires, motivates and deepens our ability to catalyze social change.

Social Change Book Club
Radical Openness by
Anthony D. Williams and Don Tapscott
Heine Bros. Coffee 119 Chenoweth Lane, St Matthews.

radical openess

We have entered a new era - one characterized by openness - in which our world and our relationships have become increasingly interconnected. It's difficult to say what this new age of collaboration will mean. But in our July book, Radical Openness: Four Unexpected Principles for Success, authors Anthony D. Williams and Don Tapscott  explore some of the questions and and uncertainties ignited by this new era. Their big question: what this will mean for the boundless inventiveness of the human mind?

The Social Change Book Club is open to everyone who is interested in understanding, participating, leading, or supporting social change. Each month we select a book and get together to discuss. Selections rotate among three themes: social changes, how we work with others to make change happen, and the inner qualities needed to bring change into the world.

Please just show up if you are interested--no RSVP, commitment, etc. It is great when people have read the book, but that is not a requirement to come and discuss.

We got this going because there is a lot to learn about how to make social change happen, and people who are interested in changing the world need opportunities to share stories and experience community with others who care.

depths of sensitivity

Clifton Universalist Unitarian Church is a progressive religious community with a diverse membership that welcomes folks of all backgrounds, beliefs, and lifestyles.  Ours is not a dogmatic, but a pragmatic faith. We may not share the same ideas, but we do share a common way of relating to others and our world that includes justice, compassion, kindness, and respect. It is in this spirit of openheartedness and openmindedness that we eagerly open our doors to you.

Thursday, July 25, 6:00 PM
Greater Louisville Sierra Club Picnic
 Yarmuth
featuring Congressman John Yarmuth
Louisville Nature Center
3745 Illinois Ave

Please come to our annual picnic on Thursday (no, not Tuesday!), July 25, at 6 pm.  We're excited to host Congressman John Yarmuth as our special guest
and speaker (barring a congressional emergency).
Please come greet him and thank him for the great work he is doing.

Not only are we having a great speaker on a different day of the week, but we're also in a great...and different...location: Louisville Nature Center, 3745 Illinois Avenue, across from the Louisville Zoo.  We all love Hogan's fountain, but variety is the spice of life, right?  Also, if it's very hot (hmmm...what are the chances of that?),
we'll have a chance to cool down indoors.

One thing that will not change:  The meal will still be a potluck, with Greater Louisville Sierra Club providing a main dish and a main drink.  So please bring a dish of your choosing to share with everyone.  Also, you are invited to bring your own reusable eating ware.

Now in his fourth term, John Yarmuth represents
Kentucky's 3rd Congressional District..

We hope you'll join us for this special event!
Our programs are free and open to the public.

collective libertation

 Sunday, July 28  3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Louisville Celebrates Collective Liberation
Carl Braden Memorial Center, Inc.
3208 West Broadway

Join us in Louisville, on Sunday, July 28, 2013,
Anne Braden's 89th birthday,

as we celebrate the release of
"Towards Collective Liberation:
anti-racist organizing,
feminist praxis,and movement building strategy"
by Chris Crass.

Drawing lessons for social justice organizing through personal story telling and
case study interviews of leading anti-racist organizations,
Chris Crass gives us a book that Robin D. G. Kelley,
author of Freedom Dreams: the Black Radical Imagination,
describes as "essential reading for anyone who believes
a different Revolution is possible."

Harsha Walia, co-founder of No One Is Illegal, explains
"His essays and interviews provide tremendously valuable and concrete lessons
for all those deepening social, political, economic, and spiritual change."

"Collective Liberation" also includes a chapter by Louisville's own
Carla F Wallace outlining history and analysis of the Fairness Campaign.
