Kentucky Conservation Committee

Art Williams, Executive Director
Kentucky Conservation Committee (KCC) is a 35 year old environmental non-profit that got its start soon after citizens had successfully opposed a proposal to dam the Red River. Since its formation it has advocated in Frankfort for a wide range of issues including improvements in regulating coal mining, improving water quality,  fighting for a bottle bill and protecting the state's agricultural lands.
Today, KCC advocates for cleaner energy for the state, land conservation and stewardship, biodiversity and outdoor environmental education. KCC advances work on these goals through citizen participation in the legislative process and through building coalitions of concerned groups and citizens.

Now in its fifth year the purposes of the Louisville Sustainability Forum are:

1.  We hold and promote the intention of sustainability for Louisville.

2.  We establish and nourish relationships that strengthen community and create change.

3. We create a space for discussion that inspires, motivates and deepens our ability to catalyze social change.

Greening with Life:
a special service
with Mark Steiner of Cultivating Connections
featuring the music of kRi and hettie!
Clifton Unitarian Church 2231 Payne St

clifton uuc

In addition to the song stylings of kRi n' hettie, guest speaker Mark Steiner will offer an inspiring exploration of our deep connections with mother Earth and the power of the four-fold path: Celebration, Lamentation, Co-Creation and Equalization to bring us back into balance with the wild and beautiful natural world that gave birth to us and
sustains us day by day.

Mark Steiner serves as Outreach and Program Director for Interfaith Power and Light and is director of Cultivating Connections, a Louisville non-profit "nurturing and celebrating our connections with each other and our world."  He has facilitated retreats, workshops, ceremonies, etc. since 1991.  Specialties include Creation Spirituality, Environmental Spirituality, and the Universe Story. In addition, he helps youth explore messages of peace and cooperation through digital media with the PeaceCasters at the Peace Education Program.

kRi is a word alchemist who layers her voice over the acoustic guitar grooves and smooth vocals of hettie. Their music and performance inspires and motivates both young and old and still maintains that down to earth, porch-hip-hop feeling.  In addition, Mark finds their talent and positivity oh so uplifting.

The service is followed by a community meal.

Hope to see you there!

Saturday, December 15th 5pm

Winter Eco-Justice Worship and Potluck
142 Crescent Ave
(back building of Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church)

Eco Justice

Gathering in a warm place on a cold late Saturday afternoon, as the light fades from the sky, we will worship God as we explore winter themes of darkness, cold, wind, silence, and expectation.

In this pre-solstice, pre-Christmas time, we appreciate and expect the beauty of light as we also hold precious the beauty of dark. How does God speak to you in winter? What are you learning through an interior winter? How does darkness nourish life?

We will sing, pray, read scripture, and move our bodies as we embrace the gifts of rest and grounding that God offers in this season.

The Eco-Justice Worship Collective ("creating dynamic, ecumenical, inclusive worship space to engage in eco-justice concerns") is an initiative of the Presbytery of Mid-Kentucky's Ecclesia Project and is supported by Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church. We gather as a community of Christians and seekers from all backgrounds, as pursuers of global justice, as lovers of the world, and as advocates for earth's healing.

Social Change Book Club
It All Turns on Affection by Wendell Berry
Heine Bros. Coffee 119 Chenoweth Lane, St Matthews.

itallturns

For December, we renew our annual practice of visiting the work of Wendell Berry. The annual Jefferson Lecture, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is the most prestigious honor the federal government bestows for distinguished intellectual achievement in the humanities. In this year's lecture, It All Turns on Affection, Berry laments the increasing divergence of modern man from the environment and local communities.

The Social Change Book Club is now in its seventh year of monthly meetings.

The Social Change Book Club is open to everyone who is interested in understanding, participating, leading, or supporting social change. Each month we select a book and get together to discuss. Selections rotate among three themes: social changes, how we work with others to make change happen, and the inner qualities needed to bring change into the world.

Please just show up if you are interested--no RSVP, commitment, etc. It is great when people have read the book, but that is not a requirement to come and discuss.

We got this going because there is a lot to learn about how to make social change happen, and people who are interested in changing the world need opportunities to share stories and experience community with others who care.
