It was refreshing to come upon an article in the NY Times this past Sunday that described an experience with drawing that much resembles that of Painting Inside Out. The author- Sam Anderson- described his frustration and boredom with drawing- always seeing his predictable self on the paper- until he was advised to draw without looking at the paper. For the first time he was surprised at what he saw, calling it "wonderfully horrible", "wonderful" refers to the aliveness and newness of the experience; "horrible" to the mind that clings to a preconceived idea of how something should look.

This is the tension we live in.

If we can stay with the aliveness within, we realize there is no perfection, no "right way", but that all is moving and unpredictable at any given moment. Can we ride it out? Can we create and build the safety within, a firm base of home and security that helps us to do this?

Can you let go of the preconceived idea that life would be good if only you could control it? Can you surrender to your inner experience at the moment?

Can you trust yourself enough?
