I am becoming familiar with not knowing. I traveled to Germany the beginning of last month to say good-bye to my mother. I came back- she hadn't died yet. Two weeks later, I returned for her funeral. I did not know in advance I would go; I did not know when I would return. There are life events we cannot plan for: deaths, accidents, and tragedies. There seem to be many of them in the world now.
