Letter from the President

May and Holy Days

I write to you as the first World War II Baby Boomer.  The war in Europe ended on August 6, 1045, and on May 5, 1046, pretty much 9 months down the line, on a Sunday, I came into the world.  So May for me is always merry.  Holy even.  Special.   I love May.  May loves me.

AD Mission Society Sunday May 19th
This year's Atlantic District Mission Society Sunday will be held on May 19th. We are sending out copies of the latest mission magazine, Engage to all of our churches with a return envelope and letter from President David Benke inside. On this the Festival of Pentecost, the birthday of the Christian Church, the Holy Spirit descended upon the first believers sending them out to engage the world with the Gospel of hope in many languages. Here in the District, we still do this today and we pray that you will join us and challenge your folks to pray for our missionaries and ministries and send in a gift.

Long Island to India

Pastor Robert Hartwell (Atlantic District Secretary, Senior Pastor, Village Lutheran Church in Bronxville and former Associate Pastor, Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Hicksville) will be running the Long Island Half Marathon on Sunday, May 5. He will be wearing a Concordia College hat and shirt to raise awareness of, and support for, a Student Ambassadors in Mission trip that Campus Pastor Minnix and a group of Concordia College students will make to India this summer.

He invites all to prayerfully consider making a financial gift. Each dollar raised helps both the students traveling to India and their important mission work there. You may check out the website below for more information. Feel free to give any amount. You may give on-line at: http://alumni.concordia-ny.edu/donations/. Select "Ambassadors in Mission" and specify "Long Island to India" in the comments section.

You may also send a check (made out to Concordia College) to: Ambassadors in Mission at Concordia College, 171 White Plains Rd. Bronxville, NY 10708. Put "Long Island to India" in the memo line.

He will also be wearing special "Red Sox" socks as a reminder of his solidarity with Boston. Let us continue to lift them up in our thoughts and prayers!
