Happy Spring Dear Yogis! You may or may not have heard that we are now residing in Los Angeles. We love waking every day to flowers and having the long time sun literally shine upon us, but we've been missing all our East Coast Yogi's! So... we're especially excited to announce we are COMING HOME May 16th for a workshop at Ravens Wing Yoga in Branford, CT. We hope to see many of you there. We will also be back East several times over the course of this year for a new TEACHER TRAINING also at Ravens Wing (see details below)!
Speaking of exciting news, we are thrilled about the imminent launch of the new website Love Tribe Vibes, in partnership with Sal Nunz, which is being built by Tom Carden who many of you are familiar with because he has done such great music on many of our DVD's. Sal Annunziato just completed a new album of his own (which we can't stop listening to!). It will launch with the new website. Our music, Sal's music, and many other top kirtan artists music, as well as yoga workouts will be available for downloads. You asked for it and we are delivering! Stay tuned for launch date.
By the Numbers
In April we pay homage to the fourth body of light, Neutral Mind. This is our meditative mind. It's our overview, neutrality, and witness consciousness. It's the see-saw between judgement and non-judgement. Mother Teresa is the archetype for the number four, as in the fourth chakra, the Heart. One of the greatest yogic attainments is the willingness to toss out our biases and let ourselves be pleasantly surprised by the beauty and uniqueness that most people put up defenses to keep hidden. Four is also the number of judgement (as in Judge Judy). All of us have a place of no mercy. When we're in that zone we don't give anyone a break. Our homework this April to to practice patience and to cultivate an open-hearted attitude. Yogi Bhajan said that, "If you can't see God in all, you can't see God at all." Also, be open hearted to yourself and appreciate your own inner beauty. DON'T LET YOUR PASSION FOR PERFECTION FREEZE YOU IN PLACE. Abide in love and let life flow. Spotlight on Two Raviana Teachers  We are incredibly grateful to have such talented souls gravitate to our Teacher Trainings and so honored to be the witness to these Teacher Trainees blossoming into great Teachers! In future newsletters we will highlight one or two of those teachers who are out there touching lives,opening hearts, and healing the world. Read on and we are sure you will be as blown away as we are with these Teachers amazing stories.
Christine Rogers is one of our 500 hr. Teacher Training graduates. Christine has been on a journey to bring Kundalini yoga to Springfield, MO. Christine says that, "The most important gift Kundalini Yoga gives people is the ability to realize: I Am that I Am, and that Kundalini yoga teaches us to surrender and give up our grief, anger and fears so we may live a happy, fulfilled life. Playing the gong has been an amazing addition to my class. I was told you do not buy a gong. The gong adopts you and teaches you how to play. Having been taught by my gong for a year and half I understand this to be true. What excites me about the gong is the healing people experience." Christine offers direct care service to those with physical and mental handicaps. Her volunteer experiences include: intake services at a homeless shelter, tutored children in reading, activities through the Y, and bussing tables at the local senior center. She's also taught yoga at a homeless shelter.
She is currently working on her master's degree in social work and is employed at Lakeland Behavioral Health Systems, a psychiatric hospital, where she's worked for the past 6 years. "Kundalini Yoga keeps me balanced and in perspective with myself and my surroundings. These days people's inner world is unable to keep up with their outer world. Nervous systems are short-circuiting. Admission rates at Lakeland have doubled in over the last 4 yrs. People need a holistic option for mental health. Kundalini Yoga is part of the solution. Like love it is meant to be shared so that we may grow unto infinity. Whether I have one person or 20 people each class is sacred. A message from above is meant to flow through me to my students. I am very grateful to serve.  Mark Beck is the first to admit that he has been guided through his short 7 year experience with Kundalini Yoga. Throughout the training Mark was pulled to the Spiritual connecting side of Kundalini Yoga. He tells us he is being guided strongly by Spirit and that it should be quite entertaining and informative. Kundalini Yoga is a royal path and a path with heart. Hopefully you are on your way from it being something you dabble in to something you revel in!
It's the time of year to detox, recalibrate and celebrate new beginnings. That means to get down on the floor and rock our practice. And of course it's always Soul Fitness season!
40 days represents a complete cycle of the psyche. When we do a Spiritual practice for 40 days we turn the tables on old habits and ways of being that don't serve us and create new momentum towards lasting breakthroughs. Below is a 40 day rotation that will take you to a whole new level in your yoga practice and life! If you don't have time to do a whole DVD in one sitting you can break up your workout by doing half the DVD in the morning and the rest later on. We're recommending that you follow your workout with five eight day Meditation practices done for 11 min. each day. If you feel inspired (or even if you don't!) consider doing these 22 or even 31 min. per day!

Low T
Hi, My 30 year old male cousin has been diagnosed with very low testosterone. Apart from traditional therapies, what kundalini yoga DVD can I buy for him which will help increase his testosterone levels naturally? Thanks,
You are on the right track in looking for natural ways to balance your cousins testosterone levels. Your cousin should also review any medications he's taking which can affect hormone levels. Supplements, even natural ones are not the best approach for a case such as this because when we elevate testosterone in this way we increase the risk for prostate problems down the road. Our bodies were created to be in balance. If we do right by them they'll do right by us. We feel that the very best thing one can do is Kundalini Yoga to help the body bring itself back to balance. A 30 year old's testosterone levels shouldn't be low. We suggest a daily practice of Kundalini Yoga to keep stress levels down and energy moving. We recommend any exercise which works the large muscle groups, i.e., Frog Pose or Crow Squats. Working any of the large muscles groups stimulates testosterone production. Also Breath of Fire stimulates the pituitary to produce human growth hormone which in turn can help elevate testosterone levels.
Certification Needed?
I am studying and doing Kundalini Yoga for more than 15 years daily. I have healed myself with the asanas, meditations and mantras of KY from being crippled and more. I am a certified hatha yoga teacher. I teach hathayoga for 28 years and I integrated some KY asanas. Do I need to get a Kundalini Teacher license/certification to be a true kundalini yoga teacher?
Thanks for writing and congratulations on keeping up with your Kundalini Yoga practice! It is not mandatory to get a certification to share Kundalini Yoga with others, however, these days most yoga studios and other venues require a professional credential to be able to teach there. Above and beyond that, to be a "true" Teacher of Kundalini Yoga we feel that it is important to go through the type of process that a Teacher Training entails. A Teacher Training is more than just a form of book learning. It's a Spiritual immersion, graceful purification process, and the opportunity to become a link in the golden chain that reaches all the way back to the Infinite (the source of these Teachings).
Kundalini Yoga is not just another style of yoga. It's ALL YOGA (and LIFE itself), the apex of perennial yogic teachings, because it deals directly with the essence of the yogic process: to invoke Spirit Rising and have that inform our lives. We have seen that very often people don't realize that a Teacher Soul/Training represents an important next step on their Path because it's hard to fathom something one hasn't experienced. What helps us bridge that gap is our soul's yearning and the Grace that gives us the fearlessness to forge ahead into the unknown. When we participate in a Teacher Training we are bringing healing to our community and the world. There is always so much more going on than meets the eye.

Mantra PleaseHi Ravi and Ana, First, thank you for being such wonderful and generous teachers. Your DVDs have helped me so much in my life. I have a question (and thank you for answering emails from me in the past, too). I want to find a mantra to repeat throughout the day, while I am going about my regular activities, at work, commuting, etc. Are some mantras more suitable for that purpose? I haven't found one that resonates, but it might be because I'm overwhelmed and don't know where to start.Thanks for writing. That's a great question! We suggest Har Haray Haree Wahay Guru: It means seed, flow, completion, ecstasy beyond words. It's for creativity, healing, abundance and deep wisdom. It is said to encapsulate the six great houses of yogic knowledge. We feel that our book, which we've been working on for seven years, and which is almost ready for print, is an expression of this mantra. We've been doing this mantra not just as a formal meditation, but on long drives, while walking, etc. for over eleven years. It takes everything to another level. In terms of transmission, if you were to start practicing it, you would get the added power of our practice, everyone currently doing it, as well as the yogis of the past. Not a bad deal! When applicable you can feel Har at the navel, Haray at the sternum, Haree at the throat, Wah at the brow, Hay at the top of the head, and Guru above the top of the head. On Guru feel that you merging with Infinity and that Infinity is pouring its blessings into you. Let us know how you do! Fear of Flying
I'm about to embark on a new career as a flight attendant, and starting my quest to share my Kundalini energy with the world! I wanted to ask if there were any breath techniques or meditations that you know that would be of help to calm those who are afraid, anxious, or nervous while flying. Congratulations on your new venture! We suggest having fearful flyers interlace their hands over their solar plexus and: Inhale long and light through puckered lips. Exhale through the nose. On the exhale ask them to feel that their stress is dissipating. Another great technique involves inhaling through the nose (hold briefly) exhale mouth (long and smooth), inhale mouth (hold briefly) and exhale nose. The first technique turns fight or flight into light and bright. The second one gives a sense of vastness. From that place of expansive overview we can soar about the cloud cover of our fears and reactive awareness. Three to 11 min. of these would be ideal.
Health Crisis!
This past year has been very difficult for me. I'm experiencing the most severe form of depression that I've ever felt, along with hypothyroid- ism, daily headaches, IBS, and anxiety. I'm a social worker and a therapist, so I know that I have to be more physically active and in my early 20's, once I found KY, it helped me in tremendous ways. Despite knowing this, I'm having difficulty getting back into a regular KY routine. I work 55-60 hour weeks and I feel that I am not where I would like to be in my career, which is a major factor in my depression.
I have all of your workouts and would very much appreciate any suggestions that you can provide for me that will help with the ailments I mentioned above.
Also, my doctor has put me on a lot of medication for all of the diagnoses I've been given and it makes me wonder if KY can ever be as effective as it once was while I'm taking anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medication, headache medication, etc. With that being said, can KY still move my stagnant energy and yield all the positive benefits?
Lastly, is there a specific DVD or series of DVDs of yours that help with being in the right place at the right time and prosperity?

We are sorry to hear of your life challenges. We feel it would be best to start simple in order to gather momentum for major breakthroughs on all fronts. We suggest committing to 11 min. per day of Sitali Pranayam as given under "S" on the health archive on raviana.com. It entails inhaling through a curled tongue and exhaling through your nose doing a specific mantra (Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung) mentally. It's not a passive inhale, Try to breathe thru the bottom of your lungs. Overall we feel that what's called for is the ability to do less and get more done because obviously your schedule as it is is not sustainable. Working on the Navel Chakra is one inroad to that type of attainment. In a job like yours it's important to put back what you put out energetically and emotionally. Kundalini Yoga is the best thing we know of for that. We are going to give this more thought but we highly recommend a phone consult with Ravi to help you suss out the bedrock issues from which the various imbalances you mentioned stem. Depression occurs when we are operating at a deficit energy wise and validation wise and when there is a discrepancy between our outer circumstances and our soul's imperative. The silver lining is that everything does contain the potential for its opposite and inherent in your situation is the potential for vibrant health and great joy. |
Meditation to Open Your Heart Both hands are in gyan mudra: index finger tips and thumbtips meeting. Your right hand is held against your sternum: middle, ring, and little fingers pointing straight up. The base of your left palm is contacting the base of your right palm on the outside edge of your right hand. Your left palm is facing up and the fingers of your left hand are pointing to the right.
Your eyes are 1/10th open looking down and in towards the tip of your nose. Inhale and hold the breath. As you hold the breath mentally recite the mantra Har continuously. When you cannot hold the breath any more, exhale, inhale and continue. The ideal time of practice for this Meditation is 45 min. Comments: The Heart Center relates to the air element. Expansion and the impossible made possible through Love and Courage. As in put your heart into it. Har is a powerful seed mantra that means Creative Infinity. Love is the most creative act because it propels us beyond our smallness to great actions. The hand position in this Meditation symbolizes that Love is a lever through every plane of existence and that actions informed by Love represent the ultimate Wisdom. If you practice this amazing Meditation for 45 min. you will be bursting at the seams with joyful appreciation for life. |
