Sat Nam & Happy New Year Dear Yogis!

As we step into this New Year let's let optimism flow and beautiful breakthroughs ensue!

Thanks for everyone who came to our New Year's Day class at Bija Yoga, Naples. We loved seeing old friends and meeting new ones. We had the honor of having three generations of men from one family attend. Their energy and enthusiastic keep up spirit added to the high vibe to help make it a truly special event. Its such a beautiful thing when families walk the path of Spirit together! A special heart out to owner Jamie Shane for being the catalyst! Jamie is the owner of Bija Yoga-the spot to elevate and celebrate in Naples! She also writes an amazing blog. Check her out on Facebook.

Hollywood sighting: as we were walking into our favorite health food store (Erewhon in LA) we ran into Simran Kaur Khalsa. She recorded the famous Tantric Har track which is on our Kundalini Yoga for Energy & Super Radiance DVD.  Her own sparkling radiance made our California day even brighter! She's got a great new album called Love Life. You can find Simran on Facebook.

Happy New Eight Year

2015 is an "Eight" year. Eight is the number of energy itself. Its two wheels represent the Universal maxim of "As above so below." The Universe is based on abundance, energy unbounded, growth, expansion, and joy. Let's not think of the Universe as someplace far away. The Universe is right here with us. It is us. All of the components of Kundalini Yoga: breath, mental focus, and vibratory effect help us to be the Universe and beneficiaries of vast tides of energy and Infinite Awareness. How does that translate into day to day life? Feel unlimited. Feel fearless. Surprise yourself every day!

Kundalini Yoga Evolution Revolution

People often ask us, 'How would you describe the Raviana style/method? In what ways if any does your style of Kundalini Yoga differ from the current 3HO organization (which Yogi Bhajan started)?' We always start our answer by saying that Ravi studied with Yogi Bhajan for 27 years (1973-2000) so everything we present is Kundalini Yoga taught by Yogi Bhajan. What characterizes our approach is that we present Kundalini Yoga as part of the fabric of All Yoga systems. We feel that in this Aquarian Age, Kundalini Yoga is meant to be the next great thing. For that to happen it is very important that Kundalini Yoga steps out into the wider yoga world. Therefore in our classes we are always sure to emphasize form and alignment because if you're going to something... do it right!  We are always inspired to honor these Teachings because they mean everything to us. That said, we feel it is very important to differentiate between the Spirit of the law and the letter of the law. Kundalini is all about Spirit. It's a Tantric system. Tantric systems are based on the same underlying principles which are eternal, but they morph externally into whatever form is most appropriate for the time they're in.

* We believe that Kundalini Yoga should be above all, joyful.
* Kundalini Yoga gives us permission to move in ways that society doesn't quite sanction. To tune our instrument we need to yell and gyrate and breathe deeply of the world.
* We believe that Kundalini Yoga is a compendium of the "greatest hits," of the Saints and Sages of the ages.
* We believe that Kundalini Yoga is a form of ecstatic dance, quantum technology, and living art.
* We believe that when Kundalini energy is alive in us then nothing can stop us, because Spirit finds a way.
* We believe that Kundalini Yoga works best when we make our yoga our life and our life our yoga.
* The ultimate way to honor Kundalini Yoga is to use it to make beautiful breakthroughs, rock our gifts, and turn past pain into infinite gain.
* We believe that to honor our soul we need to honor who we are, be that woodworker, surfer, kickboxer, poet, or gardener.  Authenticity is the calling card that opens doors.
* We believe that (in our Teacher Trainings) it should not be obligatory to wear all white and keep your head covered.
* We believe that these types of things should be a personal decision.
* Each Raviana class presents a Kundalini Yoga kriya (a pre-existing set of exercises which prompts a synergistic, exponential effect) but we also design our classes with ample warm-ups so that students always get a complete full body and soul workout.
* Kundalini Yoga is an emergent system. That means that it is in the process of constant evolution and that something unexpected and unprecedented is generated.
* We believe that the forms this evolution will take will transcend one's yoga mat and surprise all of us.
* We believe that Kundalini Yoga's greatest secret weapons are free energy generated by the breath and the incredible mantras that shift our indiviidual and collective reality to a higher order of being.
* We believe that Kundalini Yoga is the perfect practice for the time we're in.
* We believe that Iyengar, Power, Vinyasa, Bikram, and Ashtanga have all been "the" yoga of the moment. We believe that Kundalini Yoga, because of its multi-dimensionality, beauty, and power is meant to be the yoga of yogas from this moment on.
* We believe that to live in the flow of Spirit means to be audacious.
* We believe in the concept of rock it and rocket! We rock our practice and rocket to the blue ethers in a down to earth way.
* We believe there can be no real revolution unless there is a revolution of Consciousness.

Smooth Move

Dear Ana and Ravi, I was sick for over a year,  and since that time (it was 2013-2014), I've found that,  even though I'm recovered,  I've got very jerky movements,  and that I drop things a lot and that I seem unsure of myself in relation to my environ- ment, so that I bump against things. I improved some of this with Alexander Technique,  but could you please recommend a short set that would help me be less clumsy and unsure and make my movements smoother? Kind Regards,

Thanks for writing and congratulations on your recovery. Whenever we get sick our fascia tightens up. This also affects our proprioceptive system. This system gives our body the sensitivity to know where we are in space and where body parts are in relation to each other. It helps us facilitate the economy of movement. The good news is that our fascia loves Kundalini Yoga! There's not just one set in Kundalini Yoga that would be most appropriate for you. Any and all of Kundalini Yoga via its work on the fascia, nervous system and detox is the perfect tool for you.. Please try to be very consistent with your practice. Most of all we recommend our Ultimate Stretch DVD, The Body Electric, the Ringing the Bells of Heaven and Siam Kriya segments on our Yoga Flow Bootcamp DVD, and the Brain Booster segment on Yoga House Call. We also recommend chelation therapy for heavy metal detox (specifically lead and mercury). The amino acid supplement L-cysteine can help the body metabolize and expel lead. There are various homeopathic remedies to help our body expel mercury. Yogi Bhajan emphasized the importance of drinking Yogi Tea (which you can buy in your local health food store) to help detox. And or course lots of Breath of Fire can help not only keep our fascia supple but also help the body detox the types of toxins that normally remain embedded in our tissues and cells. .

Sweet Sorrow

Hi Ravi and Ana, I am hoping that all is well with both of you, that Christmas/New Years was and is a wonderful time in your lives. I have a serious situation and I would like your guidance. My dear friend Nancy, who I have known since I was 10 years old is dying.  She has terminal breast and lung cancer.  Right now she goes in and out of consciousness and her body is beginning to shut down. I am aware that there are healing circles, so now I am wondering is there such a thing as a dying circle. How is it done and can I do it for her?  Any other suggestions would deeply appreciated. Heartfully, Sat Nam,

We're very sorry to hear about your friend. For a person who is passing, you can still do the same healing circle that we did in Teacher Training. Raise your arms to an angle of 30 degrees above parallel and a little wider than shoulder width apart.  Inhale deeply and chant in a major scale: Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung.) These sacred syllables represent the constituent elements of the Universe. This beautiful mantra will help ease the passage out of this dense plane, and convey her gracefully to the subt le realms. Whatever sacred space you can create will make a huge difference. Chanting or playing beautiful mantras is said to make that transition very graceful and is said to bring much merit to the person departing. When you friend passes, whether you are present or not, you might consider doing a long Akal. Inhale and chant: A-kaaaaaaaaaal thinking of your friend. It means deathless and when it is chanted for a departing soul it is a very special thing for all concerned. Sat Nam & Blessings.

High Cortisol

I love your DVDs and have been practicing for a few years now. I have been diagnosed with VERY high morning cortisol (wake up with a racing heart). What poses or DVD would you recommend to do in the AM which would help lower the cortisol quickly?

Thanks for writing. Cortisol levels are naturally highest in the morning but it sounds as if you levels are too high. This would be in response to stress. Your first order of business should be Kundalini Yoga and Meditation. An early morning practice turns stress into blessings. Also, a good amount of Navel Chakra work will lower overall cortisol levels. Of course we must not discount the importance of addressing dietary stress in lowering cortisol levels. Try to eliminate the usual suspects: sugar, coffee, alcohol, excessive sodium. High cortisol levels go hand in hand with chronic inflammation. To curb chronic inflammation we recommend an alkaline diet and regular practice of Sitali Pranayam (under "S" on our A-Z Health archive). There are supplements to help with cortisol metabolism. For instance the supplement specialists at Erewhon in Los Angeles, who are very knowledgeable about all things health, recommend the "Licorice Plus" by Metagenics formula.

Blessingway Chant

Well my sister is due in mid February and we are having a Blessingway for her. :) I want to lead everyone in a chant and I was wondering if you all had one that you think would be perfect for that?any suggestions would be wonderful

We highly recommend the mantra which honors and invokes the Feminine Creative Principle. The mantra is: Adi Shakti, Adi Shakti, Adi Shakti, Namo Namo. Saraba Shakti Saraba Shakti Saraba Shakti Namo Namo. Pritham Bhagvatee Pritham Bhagvatee Pritham Bhagvatee Namo Namo. Kundalini Mata Shakti  Mata Shakti Namo Namo. This mantra creates a beautiful energy of protection and Grace. It invokes Spirit Rising which is a Feminine Force. The Divine Mother is the source of compassion but she is also the fierce protector of all life. If you feel that everything in your life has gone awry, energetically or astrologically, chant this mantra 108 to turn it all around!  The compassion and blessings of the Divine Mother represent one of the most powerful forces in the Universe. To honor the Divine Mother we should always endeavor to honor all life and each other.

Meditation of the Month

Sit in Easy Pose with a straight spine. Both hands form Maha Gyan Mudra: ring and little finger curled under your thumb, index and middle finger point straight up. Raise your right arm as if taking an oath. Your right palm faces forward. Your left hand is contacting your sternum, palm facing down. Have your extended fingers as straight as possible. This stimulates your electromagnetic field.

Breathe long and light through your nose. Direct the breath from your nose up to your Third Eye and then down to your heart center, where the fingers are. Feel the breath as a physical sensation as it travels along this path.  In this Meditation your eyes can either be closed, or 1/10th open, focused at the tip of your nose. Practice this Meditation for 11 minutes. At the end, inhale and exhale deeply three times and relax. To perfect this meditation, do it once a day for 40 days.

Yogi Bhajan gave us this meditation to help ease our transition into the Aquarian Age. In order to take advantage of powerful energies now available and insulate ourselves against various health issues endemic to these times, we need to raise our personal frequency and create an ongoing relationship with vital energy via the breath.

Yogi Bhajans comments:  This Meditation is very effective in opening up the fourth, fifth, and sixth lotuses (chakras). It is like a snake. The nose is the mouth of the serpent and the inner path of the breath is the body of the snake. The secret of this is that it balances the distribution of the red and white blood cells. That's the most difficult to control. It is the area that defends your total health.
