Questions of the Month:
Meditation for Trust

A bird doesn't stress over whether or not the
branch it's on will break. It trusts its own wings. --Anon.

Everyone loves someone who is truly their self. That endlessly interesting and unpredictable friend who never seems to know or care what others consider trendy or hot or cool. They are unabashedly authentic and people watch them to see what they'll do next. Whatever they do is unerringly fascinating. They seem to have no fear when it comes to expressing their depth. They trust what's in their heart without thinking or intellectualizing about it. They just trust. It's as if they live in a bubble of the Universe's unconditional love. They don't seem to need approval from their parents, friends, or significant other(s). They have cut right through all the middle people and forged a collaborative relationship with the Universe. Their palate of possibilities contains all the colors and shades thereof.

Often we are afraid to let people see who we really are. We don't trust that they will like us. So we show them little hints even though we sense that if they really knew who we were they would love us. Its common to not reveal our personalities in fear of alienating others. But if we don't give anything tangible to like, this becomes a self un-fulfilling prophecy. We can't receive what we haven't given. I (Ana) once told someone that I didn't feel comfortable having my family/friends come to dance recitals because I was so afraid that I would mess up. Fall flat on my butt, or forget my cues, etc. She said, why don't you look at it instead as a chance to show them how good you are? This changed everything for me. I realized I hadn't been trusting in my ability or trusting that people would still love me if I failed.

Trust yourself. Building trust in yourself calls for giving ourselves over to the Universe's belief in us. And believing that the Universe is aware and aware of us. That there is purpose to our presence. That reality is rhythm and that the Universe is always ready to express its greatness through us.

Life is too short to let a self-concept of feeling "less than," rain on our parade. What another person does or doesn't do in relation to us is more about them than us. When we forget this we become insecure and that incites us to try to manipulate events and people. This is a first chakra phenomena. When our security is threatened we feel that we have no anchor in life. The first chakra magnifies threats to protect us and we think the worst first. We can read endless platitudes about trust but when we feel threatened our Spiritual resolutions go out the window.

True trust is a seventh chakra attribute. When the first and seventh chakras are supporting each other our divine innocence is reinstated and we are grounded enough to integrate that sense of wonder into this life.

Never be afraid to trust in an unknown future to a Universe that knows you better than you know yourself. These are the things that will never let you down:

1. Your true self.
2. The Universe Itself.
3. Your daily Spiritual discipline.

A Case of the Blah's

Hi Ravi and Ana! Lately I've been feeling really...blah.  When ever I do the Sat Nam meditation at the beginning of your DVDs it makes me feel sad because I feel like I'm not living the life of my true self, especially when it comes to my career.  Everyday I start to feel more and more blah.  Like a gray cloud has settled over my life. I don't feel depressed exactly, just more stuck in a rut.  Unfortunately, this also feels very draining and I feel totally lethargic all the time.  What is your prescription for a case of the blahs? Thanks!

Thanks for writing. The first thing to remember is that because you are doing a spiritual practice you are as successful as anyone can be in this life. You have got that going for you! There are certain things that you can count on and one of them is that cause and effect is an ironclad law of the Universe. That means if you begin to do certain things, then that will initiate a chain of events. You may feel backed into a corner with seemingly no way out. The first step is to gather energy for your great leap into a more fulfilling phase of life. You no doubt feel depressed but try not to indulge in being depressed. That will free up new energy. And of course your Kundalini Yoga practice is a way to generate exponential energy as well. We recommend our Fat Free Yoga for your glands, especially your thyroid. We also suggest practicing our Navel Power DVD at least 2x (or more) per week, and the Ganpati Kriya Meditation which you can read about under "G" in the A-Z Health archive on www.raviana.com  It would be great to practice that for 22 min. each day. Working the Navel Chakra and Ganpati Kriya both engender positivity and a fresh perspective. Via these recommendations things will start trending in a more positive direction. It won't happen overnight but it will happen. Everything contains its opposite. That's another ironclad law of the Universe. In your life right now there is the potential for great joy. Sat Nam & Many Blessings!

Friend in Need

Good morning Ana and Ravi. My friend just gave up alcohol and I was wondering if you have any ideas I could pass on?  Looking forward to seeing you both. Blessings,

Thanks for writing. We suggest that you friend does 22 min. per of day of the Sitali Pranayam breath as given here:

That is for liver detox and overall healing. Also: any Kundalini Yoga you feel she can handle. Ultimately our Yoga Cleanse DVD would be great for her to practice. Please speak to them about keeping their blood sugar levels stable. That is a big piece of the puzzle in overcoming addiction. The amino acid supplement L-Glutamine can be helpful to help ameliorate cravings. Then there is the all-important emotional component. We recommend the Sa-Ta-Na-Ma Meditation:

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. We look forward to seeing you
in Teacher Training!

Which Chakra?

Hi from Australia! Could you please tell me which of your DVDs relate to each specific chakra?  I have searched your website archives and have found the lists for sample Weekly Workouts and Inspirational Pleasures but don't seem to be able to find a list of DVDs for working through the chakras individually. I realize there's the A Journey Through The Chakra and Dance the Chakra DVDs which are fabulous for the days I need a total body workout but I would like to know which DVDs you would recommend for those days I want to work on one specific chakra only. Also, I would like to thank you. I live in an area where I do not have access to 'live' KY classes, your DVDs are my daily classes. Your DVDs educate, motivate and inspire me every day. I am truly grateful. THANK YOU!

Thanks for writing and congratulations on keeping up with your Kundalini Yoga practice. Its great to hear that you are raising Spirit down under! :)

Here are our recommendations for working through the chakras individually:

1st chakra: Yoga for Beginners & Beyond: Stretch, Strengthen & Be Stress Free

2nd chakra: Yoga Bliss Hips

3rd chakra: Navel Power

4th Chakra: Green Energy of the Heart

5th Chakra: Ringing the Bells of Heaven on Yoga Flow Bootcamp, or the 2nd set of Yoga Cleanse

6th Chakra: Our Meditation DVD

7th Chakra: Solar Power Yoga

8th Chakra: Kundalini Yoga Energy & Super Radiance

The hardest blocks to work through in any of the chakras are in the 1st chakra. 11 minutes each of Sat Kriya, the Sa Ta Na Ma meditation, and So Darshan Chakra Kriya would be great for that. Also, another way to work on the chakras is, if you know one chakra needs work, you can work on its polarity to bring it into balance. 1st and 7th, 2nd & 6th, 3rd & 4th, 5th & 8th.

Please let us know if you need any clarification. We wish you many beautiful chakra workouts!

Dreamy Yoga

Hello Ana and Ravi, When I am doing your dvd's I feel good and I like the practice, but afterwards I feel very unreal, dreamlike. I don't know how to explain it exactly, but it doesn't feel good at all. So I stopped doing the practice, can you explain what's happening and what I can do?

Thanks for writing and congratulations on beginning your Kundalini Yoga practice. What you are experiencing is actually old chemicals and toxins being processed out of your system. If you have taken any form of recreational drugs in the past, you may actually be feeling their effects as they are cleansed from your system. What you are going through is a very temporary situation and we feel it is very important to keep up with your practice. We suggest that after your practice you meditate for 1-3 min. focusing at the Third Eye with Long Light Breathing. Then have your eyes closed (not focusing at the brow) and concentrate on your navel area for 1-2 min. After that have your arms at right angles and very quickly move your fingers over and under your thumbs a few times. That will balance your brain hemispheres. Please keep us posted!

Meditation for Brosa (Trust)

Sit in easy pose with a straight spine. Have your eyes open slightly looking down and in towards the tip of the nose.

Arc your arms up overhead like a ballet dancer in fifth position. Your hands are 8-12 inches above your crown. Both palms face down with the top hand resting on the one below. Women have your left hand on top, men the right. Your thumbs are meeting print to print with your thumb tips pointing straight back.

Inhale deeply and as you exhale chant Wahay Guru. The Guru gets very soft, almost a whisper.

Do this initially for 11 minutes. The time may be increased by 1 minute after every 15 days of practice until you reach a total of 31 minutes. It is important to respect these time limits as the kriya is very potent and its effect extensive.

Comments: Brosa is a concept that conveys trust. Not just trust that the dry cleaner will deliver our clothes on time, but that the Universe has our back. There are many uncertainties in this life, but there are some things that are certain: 1. The Universe knows what it's doing. 2. The Teachings and technologies of Truth will never let us down. 3. There is no need to fear the Unknown.

This Meditation works with the first/seventh chakra dichotomy. The first chakra is self-referential and often defensive. The seventh chakra is wide open. Wahay Guru is the mantra of the mind. It means the ecstatic joyride from self-referential to referencing the Self. In order to expand we need to become expansive. This Meditation tunes us to vast possibilities that are like buried treasure in every moment and every breath.
