Spring is on the way! Let's come out of hibernation, release Winter and it's heaviness, and move forward anew.
From Tadasana, raise the arms in Urdhva Hastasana (upward arms). Keep the trunk upright as you bend at the ankles and knees. As you lengthen the tailbone down and pull the navel to the back body, bend further at the knees. Allow the trunk to angle slightly forward without tilting the pelvis back. Hold 10-15 seconds. Spring back up to Tadasana. Repeat 1-2 more times.This intense pose is great for building strength in the legs and abdominal core while opening the chest and shoulders. It breaks up wintry tamas (inertia, heavy energy) and infuses one with rajas (moving, active energy) to make one more sattvic (clear, light energy). Perfect for spring! Get ready, it IS coming.

Inversions are a cornerstone of Iyengar Yoga. For students with
at least 6 months Iyengar Yoga study, explore inversions with a sense of play and safety. We will prepare for inversions thoroughly
and practice a variety of upside down poses, beginning with Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Dog), with variations and modifications as needed.
Peggy is a certified Intermediate Junior II Iyengar Yoga instructor who
has been inverting since 1996, at first with trepidation, and then with great joy. She has been teaching since 2001.

The end of Winter session is March 28th.
Since there were so many Polar Vortex closings this session, IYD is offering a make up week of classes March 31- April 4. In the meantime, feel free to make up any missed classes during any of the other offered classes during the week. You can join any class at you level or one above for make-ups. If your schedule does not permit you to attend another class, prorating your next sessions is an option.
