Issue: #1Jan/2014
Greetings!

We're very excited to usher in this time of newness with you!  Our rope-wall is coming along nicely, and will be fully installed and ready for Winter Term!

We've received generous donations of time, muscle and monies to support our vision for Iyengar Yoga in Detroit.  Thank you!!

We're also happy to say that we've included 2nd Sunday Workshops with Peggy to our Schedule of Events with the first workshop, "Home Practice"  happening on January 11.  Space is limited.  Register now.

Also a new addition to IYD is the Monthly Focus, which details an asana, and it's benefits to add to your yoga practice.

Let's grow strong!
January is Bring A Friend Month!

All month long, bring a friend, who is new to Iyengar Yoga Detroit, to try a class with you at no charge. If Iyengar

Yoga has improved your health, healed your injury, clarified your mind, stabilized your emotions, or brought any

other benefit, share it with your friend! New beginners are welcome at all Level 1 classes, as well as Gentle and

Restorative classes. To drop into a Level 2 or 3 class, check with the instructor.

Community Gift
How community supports itself.
Peggy K. Hong

Peggy teaches several "community gift"/pay-what-you-can classes each week, marked with "*" on the
schedule. While there is no set fee, your generous gift, whether $2 or $20, will keep the class running
and allow others to experience the same benefit you receive. The lessons of Iyengar Yoga, so generously
offered by the Iyengar family and the teachers
they have trained, are priceless. Let us  appreciate
this sacred art by giving what we can from the heart.

Monthly Focus: Bharadvajasana I -
From the Past Into the Future
Peggy Kwisuk Hong

From Dandasana, fold your legs to your left. Bring the left leg into Virasana with the left shin in the arch of the right foot. Elevate your hips on blankets or block to level them. Pressing your left shin, outer thigh, and hip down, twist to your right, and place your right hand behind you. Grip the right knee with your left hand to turn
the ribs, shoulders, and finally, the head.
Leave
2013 behind and look forward into 2014. Take what you have learned and gained in the past year and bring it around to the new year. Leave behind your mistakes and all you have outgrown. As you turn your abdomen, you digest and metabolize, not just your last meal, but all your experiences. As you turn your chest and shoulders, you open your heart to what is next. As you turn your head, you gaze with openness and wonder at what is to come. Meanwhile, ground yourself by pressing both buttock bones down so you have a firm base from which to twist. R/evolve and resolve!
