From Our Sabbatical Priest
Peter Siwek
Dear Friends:

Two Sundays ago, we celebrated the Feast of Pentecost: the Church's birth through the power of the Holy Spirit. The motivating, meaning-making, wildcard Spirit of God energizes a group of timid disciples to boldly proclaim God's Good News through Jesus.

Last Sunday, we celebrated the Feast of the Holy Trinity: a uniquely Christian way of describing God. Trinity Sunday wraps up the seasons of the Church that focus upon the biography of Jesus. The next several months of Sundays are properly called "The Sundays after Pentecost." For the rest of the liturgical year, we explore the impact of the Spirit's power giving life to the Church. We are "Pentecost people".

In the Letters of Paul, as well as the Acts of the Apostles, it is clear that even the Baby Church had many challenges. For the next three Sundays, I would like to offer a three-part sermon series exploring these challenges: "The Struggle for Power" (May 29); "There Isn't Enough!" (June 5); and "Unforgivable Sins" (June 12).

If you'd like to study the Sunday readings ahead of time, you can find them on one of my favorite websites, www.lectionarypage.net. After Trinity Sunday, the Lectionary offers two "tracks" of readings, and we are using "Track One". The readings for May 29 are at this link; June 5 is here; and June 12 is here.

Faithfully yours,

Peter+

Thank You, PADS Volunteers!
Housing Forward A huge THANK YOU to all the PADS Cooks and overnight volunteers for another very successful year. With your help we filled about 500 beds and served almost 1000 meals (counting dinner and breakfast). Each and every one contributes so much...this is not a one-person project by any means! The PADS Cooks will be having a planning meeting in mid-August. Our group includes both men and women and if you'd like to join us next year, please let Sue Wells (sue@wells1.com) or any of the PADS Cooks know.
