Musings about Holy Week and Easter
We gather around the table.
Jesus calls us into break bread and drink the wine in remembrance of him.
Jesus washes the feet of his disciples and we wash one another.
Jesus is taken and the disciples sleep instead of keeping watch. We watch and remember what it must have been like for Jesus in those hours and last days.
Jesus is placed on the cross with common criminals. Even then he reaches out. He comforts them and his family.
We come and hear the story and place ourselves before the cross. The cross of Jesus and of our lives.
Jesus dies and a part of us dies as well.
We sit around a fire and remind ourselves of all of the salvation stories that God has placed before us. We remember. We reflect on their meaning for our lives.
We renew the promises of our baptism, to strive for justice for all and to respect the dignity of every human being.
Jesus rises and we rise.
We have heard the stories. We have become the stories.
May we rise anew - this week and always!
