Transfiguration On Monday, I was able to experience something like that. A monarch butterfly was birthed in our kitchen and released onto a flower in the garden. What had been a small green exoskeleton when it arrived, hours later emerged as the beautiful butterfly that you see in the photo. I arrived home as it was sitting on the flower making sure the wings were dry, and before it took off to explore the garden. Moments like that draw me to the wonder of God's creation. Seeing this new creation was revelation of God's love and it lit up my day. Today is the feast of the Transfiguration, when, as our Nick Currie says, "Jesus revealed God's glory, light, and love to several of his disciples." For me, a butterfly did that this week. Not just because it was a butterfly; but, because a friend brought it to our house (she was in a meeting with my spouse Vicki) so that the butterfly would not be trapped in the temporary home of a glass jar and so we could experience the "awesomeness" of God's creative abilities. How has God's glory, light and love been revealed to you? -Shawn

Might this be the year you, or someone you know, decides to join the choir program? St. Augustine writes that we should be an "Alleluia from head to toe." Singing is a beautiful and appropriate response to the World Creator, the World Redeemer and the Spirit. Our Schola children's choir begins rehearsals on Wednesday September 3rd, with new singers beginning at 3:30 p.m. and going until 5:00. Parents are warmly welcome to come and observe the fun! Please invite your neighborhood children to "try out" the choir, and consider inviting family members to join as well! Our adult choir begins rehearsals on Thursday, September 4 at 7:30 p.m. A little unsure about reading music? We can help! Join us half an hour earlier at 7:00 p.m. for "Sight Reading Club," an informal and fun time to explore reading music. It is light-hearted and informative! Our Madrigal choir begins its fourteenth season on Sunday afternoon September 7th at 1:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Kindly contact Dennis Northway or Nicci Krebasch with questions. Come, let us sing a song together unto the Lord!

Lake & Forest Parking Garage Closed
|
The village-owned parking garage adjacent to our parking lot has closed in preparation for the new development at that site. Those who used to park in the Lake & Forest garage have been directed to the Holley Court Garage a few blocks to the west, and accessible from both Marion and Ontario streets. The Avenue Garage at Oak Park Avenue and North Boulevard also is a nearby parking option. Please note that Grace will continue to maintain exclusive parking rights on Sunday mornings in the open lot we lease to the village. More information about the development project is on the Village of Oak Park website at this link. We are interested in learning how many of you used to park in the garage on Sunday mornings. Would you give us two minutes of your time and complete the very brief survey at this link? Thanks!

Parking in the Driveway at Grace
|
A reminder: please do not park in the lane immediately west of the church unless you are actually on site at Grace. Doing so presents problems with weddings, funerals, and other scheduled events. In addition, with upcoming building work scheduled at Grace, contractors are going to need full access and cars parked in the lane while owners shop on Lake Street or commute to Chicago are going to present problems which will delay work.
Thank you for your cooperation!

An Invitation from Caroline Moores & Tim Yeager

Going Away Party August 23rd
|
Dear friends,
As most of you have now heard, Caroline and I are moving to England. Tim flies out on August 26th, and Caroline follows (with Daphne) on the 29th. Time is running out, but we still hope to see our friends and family before we leave.
We figured the best way to do that was to have a party somewhere other than our house (which we just sold) and food cooked by someone other than us (so we can see everyone).
Therefore, we invite you to join us for a Going Away Bash, so that we can hang out together before we blow the Western Hemisphere. We are returning to the scene of our wedding reception and many other memorable events: Grace Church. Heavy hors d' oeuvres and drinks are being prepared by our friends Chuck, Sam and Jane.
Please join us if you can!
Saturday, August 23rd 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Grace Episcopal Church Parish Hall 924 Lake Street Oak Park, IL 60301
Please click here to RSVP to Tim.
Peace and blessings to you all!
Love,
Caroline Moores and Tim Yeager
