Blessing of Backpacks
This Sunday and next
At the 10:30 service this Sunday, August 18, we'll bless the backpacks that will go to Lawrence Hall Youth Services.  They will in turn distribute them to children returning to school.

Thanks to all who contributed toward this project!

Also, all Grace children and youth are encouraged to bring their backpacks to church on Sunday, September 25 for a backpack blessing during the 9AM service, followed by a formation kick-off brunch!

St. Nick's Knacks: A Rummage Sale!
Join the people of St. Nicholas in Elk Grove Village (the church our administrator Douglas VanHouten attends) this weekend for their annual rummage sale.

Vox 3 Concert: Opera Alfresco!
VOX 3 Collective offers a free program of scenes from great operas - in the great outdoors! Concertgoers are invited to bring a blanket and settle in for a lovely musical afternoon under the summer sky. This performance features arias and scenes from classic American, German, French and Italian operas, set in a laid-back, garden party atmosphere. Some of Chicago's finest young vocal talent is featured in comic and dramatic scenes, such as those found in Verdi's Il Trovatore and Donizetti's Don Pasquale,
alongside rarities like the luscious duet from Berlioz's Beatrice et Benedict.

From the passion of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin to the charm of Weber's Der Freischütz to the intricacy of Handel's Semele to the warm familiarity of Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, there really is something for everyone. By structuring the program in this way, VOX 3 members educate listeners about these wonderful operas, while entertaining them with energy-charged performances.

Opera Alfresco is performed outside (weather-permitting) at St. Helena's Episcopal Church, 7600 Wolf Road, Burr Ridge, IL, on Saturday, August 24 at 3:00pm. Admission to this concert is free; donations gratefully accepted.
