Favorite quotes of the week:

"Our heroes weren't loved because they were good; they were good because they were loved."

I Wonder if Sunday School is Destroying Our Kids (click title for article)

From the Facebook page of Dave Hedges:

Beth Krogman gave me these little pearls today, from the collection of the late great Fr. Bob. I'm not sure if these are his own words or just pass-alongs, but they're better than many!

"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken."

"Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out. If you forget this, enlightenment is the least of your problems."

"Be here now; be someplace else later. Is that so complicated?"

All of those offer so much wisdom to our lives.  What are some of your favorite finds from this week?

An Update on Mark Woodworth
Mark has had successful gall bladder surgery at Rush Oak Park Hospital and a successful endoscopic procedure to remove stones in other bile ducts at Rush in Chicago. We expect that he will be discharged Thursday morning, and the doctors think it likely that he will be able to travel to Seattle for a family reunion on Saturday.  Thanks to Shawn and Clayton for their visits, and our deep appreciation to all for their prayers and concern.

Mother Alice Sends Her Greetings and Thanks to Grace and St. Christopher's
Mother Alice of St. Luke's, Renk Sudan
Mother Alice sent an email recently expressing her thanks to Grace and Saint Christopher's for the $3000 we sent for her salary. She received the funds at the beginning of July.  Here are excerpts of her message to us:

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and from St. Luke Renk Church congregation.  Hoping this message will reach and find you in good health and with Christ's peace...

Thank you for sending the staff salaries that are allocated to Rev. Alice, which was the amount of about (US 3,000).  This amount has been received and payment has started based on the known financial and administratively planned procedures...

To let you about our situation generally in South Sudan, and especially in upper Nile, whereby Renk County is located, I want to inform you that this country is still young and has its own challenges and problems.  The challenges we are facing include: the insecurity of the borders, refugees that are coming to Renk and are members of Saint Luke, rise in inflation making things very expensive, among other problems...

We would like to thank you for your efforts you have exerted for the purpose of supporting this church of St. Luke particularly and Renk Diocese in general. May God bless you and all your Christian congregations in the two churches.

Seeking Volunteers
Can you lend a hand, and a truck?

We are in need of someone to pick up 25 or more cathedral chairs like the ones already in the church.  They are from the same location as the ones we received earlier: 201 S. Ashland, Chicago.

Please contact Shawn if you can help out. We need to pick them up by early September.
