White Ribbons Against Violence

Anne Smedinghoff, of River Forest, was killed Saturday while delivering textbooks to children in Afghanistan.  Anne was the niece of Grace member Cathy Tokarski.

Anne's neighbors are tying white ribbons on trees in honor of the peace she gave her life working to obtain.

Let's join with her neighbors by tying a white ribbon around a tree to remember and honor Anne, those killed with her, and all killed in acts of violence.  Join the event on our Facebook page at this link to help spread the word.

A group of women from First Presbyterian Church (7551 Quick Ave., River Forest, IL) has generously offered to set up a convenient "drive-thru" to pick up white ribbons and American flags for those wishing to support the Smedinghoff family. Recognizing that time constraints might prevent as many people as would otherwise like to participate in the memorial, they have offered to purchase the ribbons and flags and have them available in their parking lot from 4pm - 8pm Monday evening.

If anyone would like to donate a new or gently used children's book as "payment" for the supplies, the group will collect them and donate them to a local children's charity in honor of Anne's final mission.

For safety's sake, the drive-thru will be one way traffic. You may enter the First Presbyterian Church parking lot from the entrance south of Oak Street on Lathrop Avenue, pick up the ribbons and flags from one of the volunteers there, then continue through the lot to the exit on Jackson Street.
