A new generation is pushing the envelope of rediscovered terroir,
old-vines, old barrels, & natural yeasts; look for less oak, less alcohol, more finesse and precision of aroma and flavor! It's revolutionary!
Six regions, six wineries, NINE different RED wines!

RIBEIRA SACRA: Fedellos do Couto
2013 FEDELLOS do COUTO "Cortezada" $25
100% Mencia. "Cortezada" is a terraced vineyard located in Ribeira do Sil on a slope of decomposed schist. Only ambient yeasts are
used for fermentation and a long, gentle maceration is followed by aging in neutral French oak casks. All these steps ensure an subtle, elegant version of Mencia that is floral and refined rather than burly and extracted.
2013 FEDELLOS do COUTO "Lomba dos Ares" $30
Blend of old-vine Mencia, Merenzao, Caiño, Mouratón -- avg. age of vines is 70 years. Lomba dos Ares is a hilltop vineyard in the Val do Bibei at an elevation between 700-750 meters. Here the soils ch ange gradually as you descend from the rocky granite soil at the top to sandy schist at the bottom. Only available in modest quantities, the Lomba dos Ares is worth seeking out as it deftly manages to capture the finesse of Ribeira Sacra with a profound depth of minerality and richness that seem almost contradictory. VINOS de MADRID/GREDOS: Comando G 2013 COMANDO G Las Brujas de Rozas $28 100% old-vine Garnacha "The 2013 La Bruja de Rozas is pure Garnacha from various vineyards across the village. The 2012 is compact, well-defined, gaining in precision, depth and comple xity, with a mixture of violets, red berries, balsamic herbs and a spicy touch. The palate is medium-bodied, with very good balance, very fine tannins and a fine thread of acidity providing backbone to the wine. This might well be the best vintage of Bruja so far! This is one of the most exciting new projects, not only in Gredos, but in the whole of Spain!" -- WA Comando G: Named for a super-hero cartoon of the 80's, college friends started this project in 2008 with a mission to make the "best Garnacha in the world." Daniel Landi and Fermando Garcia are forging ahead, getting closer to their goal with each vintage! BIERZO: Veronica Ortega 2012 VERONICA ORTEGA "ROC" $45 Old-vine Mencia, 80 years+ old, farmed organically in Bierzo. Exuberantly floral and aromatic, a wine sourced from old vines that are organically worked. The wine matured in second and third use barrique. Compelling nose full of violets, lilies, blueberries cherries, incense, aromatic herbs, peated malt and damp earth is there again. The palate is medium-bodied with clean, delineated flavors, very fine tannins and good freshness." --WA"Eues for one year, with three rackings. A c
2013 VERONICA ORTEGA "Quite" Mencia $25 Hand harvested, 50% whole cluster, natural yeast fermentation in vat with regular pigeage, 30 day maceration. 4 months in n

CANARY ISLANDS: Suertes del Marques
2013 SUERTES del MARQUES "7 Fuentes" $25
Blend of Listán Negro, Tintilla, Listán Blanco -- vine age average 100 years growing in volcanic soil.
"There are showy aromas of dried flowers, white pepper, pumice, volcanic ash and perhaps some plums with savage, meaty undertones. The palate is silky with supple tannins framing the red fruit and pungent flavors that are intermixed with notes of volcanic rocks. 92 pts.)
2012 SUERTES del MARQUES "La Solana" $30 100% old-vine Listan Negro.
"The 2012 La Solana is a single-vineyard Listán Negro planted with very old, ungrafted vines at 300-450 meters altitude on volcanic soils, probably their oldest vineyard. The wine aged for one year in 500-liter French oak barrels. It feels serious and closed, ripe with plums, violets and rocks, developing more perfume with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, with fresh, acid red fruit flavors and a mineral, earthy finish with the dried roses making a glorious comeback in the finish." - WA
RIBERO del DUERO: Hacienda Monasterio
2011 HACIENDA MONASTERIO Crianza $45
Tempranillo (85%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), Merlot, Malbec (5%) Certified organic.
"I tasted three breathtaking wines, starting with the 2011 Crianza which is, year in, year out, one of the best crianzas from Ribera del Duero. The vineyards are planted on the chalky slopes of this chateau-style winery, surrounded by vineyards outside the village of Pesquera de Duero. For Peter Sisseck, 2011 marks the end of an era, the end of high alcohol, but it all comes from the work in the vineyards improving on the balance, adapting yields to the character of the vintage. It has an explosive nose, with ripe, hedonistic aromas and the wood perfectly integrated into the wine. The palate is medium to full-bodied, dense, glycemic, with polished tannins, and clean, with delineated flavors, not heavy and with the alcohol perfectly integrated and unnoticeable. A big Ribera which feels light on its feet; a gentle giant, a triumph for the vintage." --WA
PRIORAT: Familia NIN-ORTIZ
2012 NIN-ORTIZ Planetes de Nin Priorat $60
"Planetes" is a blend of Garnatxa Negra and Carinyena that is harvested by hand, destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in foudre.
"I was thoroughly impressed by the 2012 Planetes de Nin, a bright ruby-colored, fragrant Garnacha-based red with some 30% Cariñena from the Planetes vineyard in Porrera. It has a beautiful floral nose of violets and lilies, with showy aromas of blood orange peel, wild berries and oriental spices in a Vosne-Romanée way, very Burgundian overall and truly captivating. --WA
2012 NIT de NIN Priorat 97 pts. $100 (Not in tasting.)
"A single-vineyard wine from a very old plot in Porrera in the Mas d'en Caçador vineyard at some 500 meters altitude on an impressive slope planted with very old vines on slate soils. It's approximately 60% Garnacha Peluda (which is a different strain producing lighter-colored wines with higher acidity than the regular Garnacha) and the rest Cariñena. The wine is pure, perfumed, intoxicating even, floral and spicy, intense and captivating. The palate is highly refined, with pure flavors, great freshness, completely focused, generous but fine at the same time. Simply superb. Drink or keep. 4,000 bottles produced.
97 pts." --WA

SOUTHERN ITALY'S ICONIC WHITE
2012 EDOARDO VALENTINI Trebbiano d'Abruzzo $125
Valentini is one of Italy's cult producers, known to only a very few. VINTAGES is very pleased to offer this exceptional wine to our customers; since it's been out of the MA market for many years, our last offer was for the 2002 vintage, nearly a decade ago.
"Undoubtedly one of Italy's top dozen wine estates in terms of sheer quality, Valentini only produces 3 wines, all of which are proven to be especially age-worthy.
Run today by Francesco Paolo Valentini, the estate's Trebbiano d'Abruzzo may well be Italy's best white wine, and examples from the 1950's are still in fine form today." --Vinous

2013 DOM. TEMPIER Bandol Rouge $50
75% Mourvèdre, 14% Grenache, 9% Cinsault, 2% Carignan. Organic.
"Buckle up for another vintage of pure, raw, mighty Bandol. Tempier's rouge remains a classic representation of the appellation, with chewy tannins framing profound black fruit, along with notes of animal and baked earth that unabashedly contribute to its formidable complexity. The Mourvèdre grape, which comprises three-quarters of the blend, doesn't give a damn about what you think. Accordingly, serve this wine at a table where you eat with your hands and won't be chastised for cracking a dirty joke." -Anthony Lynch
