2012 CLOS des PAPES Chateauneuf 98 pts!
One wine, no new oak at this benchmark estate
2012 CLOS des PAPES Chateauneuf du Pape 98 pts. $150

"The 2012 Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape is stunning! Showing surprising depth and concentration in the vintage, with full-bodied richness and texture, perfumed, complex aromatics, fantastic mid-palates, and serious back-end structure. 98 pts."  -- WA

"One of the benchmark estates, Clos des Papes covers close to 90 acres in Chateauneuf du Pape and is run by the incredibly talented Paul-Vincent Avril. Favoring a single cuvee, his Chateauneuf du Pape is always a blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre 10% Syrah and the rest a mix of Vaccarese, Counoise and Muscardin. No new oak is used in the winery." - WA
New! 2012 from DONJON & USSEGLIO
donjon label

2012 VIEUX DONJON Chateauneuf du Pape 94 pts. $70

"The 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape is a classic effort from this estate that could come from nowhere else than the south of France. Garrigue, lavender, pepper, sweet kirsch and blackberry-styled fruits are just some of the notions here and this medium to full-bodied, supple and nicely concentrated 2012 will benefit from short-term cellaring. 94 pts." --WA

"One of my favorite estates, these classic, textbook wines are made by talented Claire Michel, who has recently taken over the running of the estate from her parents." - WA

2012 PIERRE USSEGLIO Chateauneuf du Pape 92 pts. $55

"Excellent, with a similar, fruit-loaded personality, the 2012 October new arrivals Chateauneuf du Pape displays abundant blackberry, red currant, licorice and toasted spice notes to go with a medium to full-bodied, pure and polished profile on the palate. Always approachable in its youth, it's a no-brainer purchase and will drink nicely for over a decade. Drink now-2024. 92 pts. - WA

An estate that continues to churn out outstanding wine after outstanding wine, regardless of the vintage, Domaine Pierre Usseglio is obviously in fine hands with brothers Jean-Pierre and Thierry Usseglio running the show." -WA

2010 Meursault from BITOUZET-PRIEURE
2010 1er "Les Charmes" is best of both worlds

BITOUZET-PRIEURE 2010 Meursault 1er "Les Charmes" 93 pts. $95

This exemplary family domaine produces classic wines from their 12 ha holdings in Volnay, Meursault, and Puligny, at the village and 1er cru levels. The estate adheres to organic viticulture and fruit is hand-harvested. This Meursault cuvée is one of the gems of the domaine, a blend of two different sites that achieve a complete expression of Meursault les Charmes. One site provides a stony minerality; the other yields explosive aromatics as well as a round, buttery mouthfeel.

"There is a beguiling freshness and punch to the pure, detailed and racy flavors, possessing that lovely sense of tension that makes the flavors and finish come alive in the mouth, particularly on the cuts-like-a-knife finish. This well-balanced and strongly persistent effort.... 93 pts. Outstanding!" -- Burghound

STORYBOOK MOUNTAIN, Napa Valley
A revelation that harkens back to Napa's origins
The story begins in the early 1880s when the red clay hillsides in the Mayacamas Range were first planted to Zinfandel. Here, an ideal match of place and grape allows Zinfandel to show its original glory. Storybook Mountain's estate wines are hand-crafted from certified organic vineyards surrounding the winery, then aged in the deep caves under the vines.

2011 STORYBOOK MOUNTAIN Zinfandel Mayacamas $40

Wow, what a surprise! This Storybook Zin is truly a revelation. The future of tradition is on display here in this historic area of Napa Valley from the, organic, old-vine plantings to the hand-dug caves for aging. When you taste this wine, you experience the greatness of this California original, not the overbearing versions that dominate shelves today. Inviting aromas with hints of roses and herbs, cool red berries, and an enticing array of exotic scents. Supple tannins, nicely structured. So elegant and beautifully balanced! It's a wonderful thing to encounter something you were "done with" and find so much more to treasure!

2009 STORYBOOK MOUNTAIN Antaeus $45

The 2010 Antaeus is a blend of 60% Zinfandel, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 3% Merlot. There's an intensity of flavor, balanced with acidity so essential to a wine's grace and longevity. It offers fine structure and deep and expressive fruit. Redolent of ripe berries and notes of cherries and currants, with a dollop of creamy, sweetly spicy oak. It is sizable without being brawny, and sports a pleasantly lingering finish.

2009 STORYBOOK MOUNTAIN Cabernet Sauvignon $50

Structure, finesse and purity of fruit are the dominant characteristics of this exemplary Cabernet from Mayacamas range. Intensity, focus, and balance in a mid-weight, elegant expression. Refresh and reset your Napa Cab expectations with this lovely wine!

Exclusive wines from MARISA CUOMO, on the Amalfi Coast
Have you seen the recent film The Trip to Italy with British comedians Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon? The scenery can't be beat as the comic pair drive the picturesque, winding roads of Piedmont, Liguria and the Amalfi Coast. (By the way, who refuses a glass of Barolo?) At least in Capri, they are enjoying glasses of Furore Bianco on a terrace overlooking the ocean, very likely from the region's top winery, MARISA CUOMO.

2010 BREZZA Barolo Cannubi 94 pts. $60

"The 2010 Barolo Cannubi wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and the pure silkiness that makes this vineyard in the town of Barolo so special. Crushed flowers, mint, sweet tobacco and dried cherries meld together in a supple, soft Barolo that should enjoy a long and broad drinking window.
