New from CAPPELLANO BAROLO!
|
Just in: 2009 Barolos + nebbiolo, barbera & dolcetto
|
Your first sip of a Cappellano wine will make you a believer: these wines are gorgeous, and have a kind of mystical purity about them that make other wines seem clunky in comparison. Enjoyment, discovery, even revelation -- isn't that why we pursue great wine?
2009 CAPPELLANO Barolo Franco $150 (1.5L $353)Cappellano produces a limited bottling from vines that are original pre-phylloxera rootstock. Although planted in the same Gabutti cru as "Rupestris," the wine itself can be dramatically different. "Pie Franco" is known for its exotic, ethereal aromas and flavors that make this Barolo a unique experience. 2009 CAPPELLANO Barolo Rupestris $85 (1.5L $215)The wine is an honest and pure reflection of the terroir of this small but important (Gabutti) cru: earthy, truffled aromas marry to a full-bodied, somewhat rustic character filled with generosity and warmth -- backed by rugged, classic tannins; true Serralunga. 2012 CAPPELLANO Dolcetto d'Alba $322010 CAPPELLANO Nebbiolo d'Alba $452009 CAPPELLANO Barbera d'Alba $45

NEW: 2009 Brunello di Montalcino!
|
2009 Brunello from VALDICAVA & CANALICCHIO di Sopra
|
2009 CANALICCHIO di SOPRA Brunello di Montalcino $65
Rich brick color opens with lovely nose of berries and violets. Full, soft red fruits coat the palate framed by by fine minerals. Very elegant and balanced, with a long, seamless finish. Outstanding!
VALDICAVA Brunello:
Iron Fist in a Velvet Glove
2009 VALIDICAVA Brunello di Montalcino $105 Special: $89.25 At Vinitaly, we tasted a long line-up of Valdicava Brunellos and Riservas-- including this 2009-- with winemaker Vincenzo Abbruzzese. The 2009 is characteristically dense, with strong aromas of dried sage, licorice and menthol. Powerful notes of leather, tar, tobacco, and cherry pit; incredible intensity and spice on the silky, mineral-infused tannins. Profound, impressively powerful!2011 VALDICAVA Rosso di Montalcino $40
Folks, this is THE Brunello bargain of the year! Vincenzo Abbruzzese did not bottle any Brunello in 2011, and made just the Rosso -- so his entire harvest is in this $40 bottle. No wonder it's large and in charge. Fascinating, powerful expression of red fruit and minerals; flowers and iron. "Tobacco, dried herbs and sweet red cherries all flesh out in this large-scaled powerful Rosso." -- A. Galloni Highly Recommended.Call 978-369-2545 or email to purchase!

VIE di ROMANS: the Pinnacle of Friuli
|
One of our favorite destinations at the VINITALY wine fair in Verona was the very busy VIE di ROMANS booth in the Friuli area. Since 1982, the Gallo family has completely transformed their vineyards and winemaking to produce some of the world's most gloriously unctuous white wines. Pictured here, the Pinot Grigio "Dessimis" spends 9 months on the lees to achieve this lovely pale onion-skin color, and more layered flavors and character than you ever thought possible! There's nothing "ordinary" at Vie di Romans!
2011 VIE di ROMANS Pinot Grigio "Dessimis" $45 Rich, luscious oily zest of grapefruit with sweeter orchard fruit notes, big and powerful. Enjoy with a cold meat salad. Or creamy pasta. Or big-flavor grilled fish. Or lobster. Gorgeous! 93 pts. WA
2011 VIE di ROMANS "Flors di Uis" $40 Blend of Malvasia Istriana, Tocai, Riesling. Tremendous freshness, white floral notes, with lots of pepper and spice. Compelling and irresistible! 92 pts. WA
|
2011 CHANDON de BRIAILLES Savigny les Beaunes Rouge $40 (biodynamic) This "villages" level wine paired with a simple meal of mushroom omelet and crunchy apple endive walnut salad resulted in one of those "we should have this more often" experiences. A perfect marriage of earth and perfumed berry fruit in this amazingly chuggable young Burgundy -- it just doesn't get any better... stop in or email to reserve yours. |
VIETTI 2006 Barolo Villero Riserva
|

|
2006 VIETTI Barolo Villero Riserva 97+ pts. $300 (only 3 three-packs left)
A rare collectors' item, one of the truly benchmark wines from the historic cellar of Vietti. The magnificent 2006 vintage of this storied Grand Cru vineyard in Castiglione di Falletto marks the ninth release since 1982. Villero's hallmark characteristics of fine tannic structure and a cool, austere, reserved style, are augmented by Luca Currado's immaculate work in the vineyards, harvesting perfectly ripe Nebbiolo grapes and using judicious amounts of new oak, to allow the vineyard characteristics of this hallowed site to speak with great clarity. Pure class. Call 978-369-2545 or email to order. Only 3 wood three-packs left.
