One of our favorite destinations at the VINITALY wine fair in Verona was the very busy VIE di ROMANS booth in the Friuli area. Since 1982, the Gallo family has completely transformed their vineyards and winemaking to produce some of the world's most gloriously unctuous white wines. Pictured here, the Pinot Grigio "Dessimis" spends 9 months on the lees to achieve this lovely pale onion-skin color, and more layered flavors and character than you ever thought possible! There's nothing "ordinary" at Vie di Romans!

2011 CHANDON de BRIAILLES Savigny les Beaunes Rouge $40 (biodynamic)  This "villages" level wine paired with a simple meal of mushroom omelet and crunchy apple endive walnut salad resulted in one of those "we should have this more often" experiences. A perfect marriage of earth and perfumed berry fruit in this amazingly chuggable young Burgundy -- it just doesn't get any better... stop in or email to reserve yours.

A rare collectors' item, one of the truly benchmark wines from the historic cellar of Vietti. The magnificent 2006 vintage of this storied Grand Cru vineyard in Castiglione di Falletto marks the ninth release since 1982. Villero's hallmark characteristics of fine tannic structure and a cool, austere, reserved style, are augmented by Luca Currado's immaculate work in the vineyards, harvesting perfectly ripe Nebbiolo grapes and using judicious amounts of new oak, to allow the vineyard characteristics of this hallowed site to speak with great clarity.
