Nicoletta Bocca founded SAN FEREOLO in 1992 on a stunning hilltop overlooking the village of Dogliani in Italy's Piedmont region.
She makes compelling, age-worthy wines with an artist's vision and an intuitive sense of the land. Her pioneering efforts have resulted in DOCG recognition for her distinctive Dogliani Dolcetto. Nicoletta has strong commitment to biodynamic farming for all her wines. Come and meet Nicoletta and get to know these wines!

2006 San Fereolo Langhe Rosso "Austri" $28

"Austri" is an earthy, rich red made from Barbera grapes grown in Dogliani. Beautiful deep berry and plum flavors, rich and lush, a hint of minerals and wildflowers.


2008 San Fereolo "Il Provinciale" $28   

Nicoletta makes a deep, richly structured nebbiolo, a blend of grapes from Dogliani and Barolo. March arrival.

If you're looking for greatness in California Cabernet, look up-- way up. The massive restoration of this legendary, rugged vineyard site by new owner Charles Banks is already showing eye-opening results.  This knock-out, majestic 2008 Cabernet, grown on the steep rocky slopes of Mt. Veeder, is still pretty much under the radar, and overlooked by the usual suspects. That means more for us, and a better value for discerning connoisseurs of world-class wine. Along with Dunn's Howell Mountain, this 2008 Mayacamas is probably the best Napa Cabernet we've tasted in a very long time.

Blackberry and black tea aromas, a balanced and complex aromatic quality with distinct notes of earth or soil. Medium bodied with bright, high-toned red berry flavors, very elegant and fresh on the palate, not overripe to a fault. Very long finish-- with dusty, non-oaky tannins and powdery minerals. Pretty refined and looks built to age.

With "Abissi," winemaker Pierluigi Lugano solved a practical problem -- not enough storage -- with an elaborate, watery solution: aging his sparkling "methodo classico" wines underwater off the coast of Portofino.

 

Lugano says:  "It's better than the best underground cellar, especially for sparkling wine. The temperature is perfect, there's no light, the water prevents even the slightest bit of air from getting in, and the constant pressure keeps the bubbles bubbly. Moreover, the underwater currents act like a crib, gently rocking the bottles and keeping the lees moving through the wine."  

 

Made from local grapes Vermentino and Bianchetta Genovese, BISSON "Abissi" offers entrancing aromas of wildflower blossoms, hay, and wild herbs. In the mouth, very fine bubbles float the notes of citrus peel, peach, spice, and chalk. As the wine opens up in the glass, flavors deepen and become more layered and complex.
