 Fall for the Langhe! For many years, we have followed the strada less traveled -- the scenic, twisting road that winds through the hilltowns of the Langhe, the wine growing area in Piedmont, Italy. While Barolo and Barbaresco garner most of the attention, the more affordable "everyday" wines --Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa -- offer a lot of bang for the buck. By "bang" we mean quality, personality, & character. What makes Langhe wines different? One factor is the distinctive soil/vineyard -- Barbera and Dolcetto are often grown alongside the Nebbiolo vines destined for Barolo & Barbaresco. Noble soil = refined, elegant intensity. Another factor is people -- these are hand-crafted wines, made at small, family-owned estates, by the same people making the top wines. And, they're affordable! New reds from EASTON, Sierra Foothills

 Months ago, we enjoyed dinner with long-time friend BILL EASTON, owner/winemaker of Easton and Terre Rouge wineries in Amador County, CA. Some weeks later, a box of wine shows up with a few surprises -- including Bill's micro-production Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. Wow -- they were marvelous-- we just had to get them! We contacted Bill to arrange a special shipment of everything he had left in his cellar in Fiddletown, CA. Production is so small, these wines are not even listed on the winery's website!
