As most of you know, our love and passion for the wines of Barbaresco and Barolo have been one of the focal points of our wine program. Our frequent trips to Alba to taste, evaluate, and fully understand the particulars of every vintage, and promote wineries-- no matter how big or small, famous or unknown-- strictly based on quality and how faithfully they have represented their land and winemaking traditions, have been of paramount importance. In the history of the Langhe, there may be no greater single iconic figure than Bruno Giacosa, someone who, for the last half-century, has made wines at the apex of quality, as well as stood unfalteringly at the pinnacle of Traditional Italian wine.
The wines of this iconic figure have commanded a commensurately high price, out of reach for many consumers. Today we are offering our customers a unique opportunity: to purchase some of Giacosa's great wines at very favorable prices. How? As a result of a "perfect storm" of circumstances: 1) Giacosa just parted ways with his long-time US importer, 2) Giacosa's last great vintages -- '05 and '07-- being the bulk of what remains in his former importer's warehouse; and 3) as a great supporter of Giacosa and top Piedmont wines, VINTAGES has been awarded the opportunity to sell off the entirety of Giacosa's MA inventory-- at unheard of prices! VINTAGES' continued dedication to supporting and promoting the top traditional cellars of Italy's Barolo region has resulted in treasured, long-term relationships with winemakers such as GIUSEPPE RINALDI and his daughter MARTA RINALDI. Rinaldi's staunch commitment to preserving piemontese traditions, his rigorous methods of cultivating nebbiolo, and guiding it into barrel and bottle, results in a true, transcendent expression, full of personality and pedigree. Don't confuse Rinaldi's traditional Barolo with something rustic, harsh, and "charming" -- if you want to know what Barolo is, here's your answer. Pure, crystalline, yet loaded with the character and distinction that comes only from a master shutting out the external "noise," and continuing to make the real deal. It's all too rare these days.
