The Sigd Holiday - November 22, 8:00 PM

"With every Jewish holiday in America, it is difficult to feel the same amazing presence you get from celebrating it in Israel. This same emotion is present for me with the  upcoming Sigd Festival.  From a young age, I remember going to Jerusalem each year, to Armon Hanetziv, to join thousands of Jews from Beita Yisrael to mark the holiday in holy and spiritual splendor."

Join us at AS on 8:00pm Saturday, November 22, to learn about the Jewish-Ethiopian unique holiday from the personal story of Pnina Agenyahu, the Senior Shlicha for Israel Engagement at The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.

Pnina Agenyahu served as Director of the Hillel Center at Tel Aviv University. In her work to create a pluralistic space for Tel Aviv U students to explore their Jewish identity, Pnina has significant experience in staff management, program planning, partnership development, fundraising, board development, and budget management-all skills that will enhance her role as our shlicha. She has extensive experience in public speaking and teaching. She was an activist involved in several volunteer endeavors in Israel aimed at social change and she had been appointed to a prestigious position as public representative on Israel's Council for Higher Education. In 2014, as Israel marks 66 years of independence with a tribute to women, Haaretz has compiled its own list of 66 Israeli women you should know. Pnina was one of the 66 women who break barriers. Pnina hold a BA from Hebrew university in Jewish History and sociology and MA in political and public leadership from Tel Aviv University. During her army service she was trained as a nature guide, and has a special knowledge of and love for the land of Israel, in addition to her love of the People and State of Israel. Like all Israelis, Pnina has a very interesting personal story. She was born in Ethiopia and immigrated to Israel when she was three years old. She is married to Avraham and they have a baby Eitan.
