10 Keys to Being a Healthy Church Leader
Let's face it, being a church leader demands a lot on our hearts, minds, souls and bodies. (Especially around Christmas!) And even though we all know that being a healthy leader is essential leading a healthy church, many of us don't make self-care as big a priority as we should. Here, from ChurchLeaders.com, is a brief list of 10 tips for staying healthy. Print it out and work on it daily.
Upcoming Brown Bag Leadership Lunch:
December 11 - The Use and the Means of Grace & Eucharistic Practice
The December Brown Bag Leadership Lunch will discuss the ELCA document, "The Use and the Means of Grace" that addresses communion practices in the ELCA and how that informs who we are as Lutheran Christians. Looking for tips on how to facilitate conversations in your congregation? Want to talk with others and share ideas? Join us on December 11. You can find this document on the ELCA website here as a downloadable PDF and additional resources for study at www.elca.org/worship.
Brown-Bag Leadership Lunches take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lunchroom of our Synod Offices. Bring lunch and we'll have discussion and a meal together. Registration unnecessary.
(To get to the lunchroom from the lobby of the Synod Office's main entrance, follow the corridor that goes off to the left. Just before the end, take the stairway at the left. On the ground floor, the lunchroom will be on your left.)

Donna Nicholson and Denise Ferguson on Board
to Staff our Synod's ABMN Campaign
Two new faces, Donna Nicholson and Denise Ferguson, join our synod team to provide leadership and staffing support for the Always Being Made New (ABMN) Comprehensive Campaign. Together they bring a wealth of experience to this effort that aims to raise $2.75 million for a number of synod ministries and $2.5 million for ELCA churchwide initiatives including world hunger and the malaria campaign.
"Our synod assembly overwhelmingly approved a comprehensive campaign, Always Being Made New, to increase resources for ministry in our Lower Susquehanna Synod and the ELCA," said Bishop Jim Dunlop. "We are very fortunate that Donna Nicholson with her experience and knowledge of our Synod was willing to take on the task of directing this effort. We are thrill
ed that she felt called to help the church in this way by taking a leadership role in Always Being Made New." Donna Nicholson joins our synod team as director for the Always Being Made New Campaign, bringing with her many years of advancement and stewardship experience as well as a strong understanding of and commitment to the church and its mission. She served as Vice President for Development and Advancement at Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg, and prior to that as Director of the Annual Fund and Alumni/ae Relations at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA. She has also worked in fundraising and public relations for Dickinson College and ARTWORKS, The Visual Arts School of Princeton & Trenton, New Jersey. Donna serves on the board of Lutheran Social Services of South Central Pennsylvania and as Stewardship Chair for Christ Lutheran Church in Gettysburg, where she and her husband, Jim, are members and is active in a number of community organizations. Donna and Jim are the parents of three grown sons. We welcome Denise Ferguson, who is providing part-time support for the Always Being Made New Campaign. She has worked in a variety of positions in state government ranging from political intern to special assistant to the secretary of the Department of Welfare. Most recently she has been served Messiah Lutheran as a part-time housekeeper, but most importantly, the Ferguson family as a stay-at-home mom. Denise received her bachelor of arts degree in international politics with a minor in French from Westminster College in New Wilmington and her master of public education degree from Pennsylvania State University, Middletown. A native of the Pittsburgh area, Denise has lived in Harrisburg most of her adult life. She has always been a member of a Lutheran congregation and was a camper and staff member at Camp Lutherlyn in Prospect, PA. She and her husband are the parents of two children and are active members of Messiah Lutheran Church in Harrisburg. |

It's time to plan for the 2015 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (January 18-25). The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is a longstanding expression of the ecumenical movement -- a worldwide movement to heal divisions within the Church, to promote dialogue among churches and Christian communities, and to encourage Christians everywhere to better understand and reflect the implications of "one Lord, one faith, one baptism." Visit the Week of Prayer website by clicking here. You may also wish to visit our ELCA Ecumenical and Inter-Religious website here.
