Don't Delay! Register Today for Bishop's Convocation
This year's Bishop's Convocation on September 18 will again be hosted by St. Matthew Lutheran Church in York and is specifically designed to be an opportunity for rostered leaders and congregational teams to  deepen the conversation begun at this year's CTIM event. The theme for this day-long event is "Being the Church for the World: Public Witness and Public Discipleship." Keynote speaker and leader is Jennifer McBride, the Board of Regents Endowed Chair of Ethics and assistant professor of religion at Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa. The event begins on September 18 with registration at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 3:30 p.m. McBride earned her doctorate at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, and was a postdoctoral fellow in the Initiative in Religious Practices and Practical Theology at Emory University, Atlanta. At Emory's Candler School of Theology she also served as a Visiting Lecturer and Program Director for the Atlanta Theological Association's Certificate in Theological Studies at Metro State Prison for Women.
McBride serves on the Board of Directors of the International Bonhoeffer Society, English Language Section. She is author of The Church for the World: A Theology of Public Witness (Oxford University Press, 2011) and co-editor of Bonhoeffer and King: Their Legacies and Import for Christian Social Thought (Fortress Press, 2010).
The day will include worship, time with Bishop Dunlop, and two interactive sessions led by Dr. McBride, along with lunch and light breakfast. Be sure to invite all leaders in your congregation to attend, particularly any who are interested in witness, evangelism, outreach, social ministry, congregational renewal, and advocacy. Leadership Training Camp Golf Scramble to Benefit Young Leaders
For 22 years, our synod's Leadership Training Camp (LT Camp) has accompanied young leaders from across our synod as they have discovered and nurtured their gifts for leadership in the  church and the world. First year LT's have always attended camp for FREE thanks to the generous contributions of a number of individuals, but now we are looking for broader support to continue offering full scholarships for this event. The first annual LT Camp Golf Scramble and Dinner is scheduled for Sunday, September 14, beginning at 1:30 p.m., at Manada Golf Club. Participants can enjoy a round of golf, free beverages, a full dinner meal, and prizes and giveaways throughout the day. You're Invited: Installations around our Synod
Pastor Gretchen Suzanne Ierien will be installed as pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lebanon, on Sunday, August 24, at a combined 9:30 a.m. worship service. The church's Psalm Ringers bell choir and the Senior vocal choir will participate, and the Reverend Robert Blezard, Assistant to the Bishop, will deliver the message. A reception will follow in the church social room. All are invited!
Pastor Ursula Schreffler will be installed as pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Union Deposit, on September 21 at 2:00 p.m. A congregational picnic will follow.

YELLOW: WEAR IT. SHARE IT.
In ELCA circles, yellow is the new black, and Sunday, September 7, will be the second "God's work. Our hands." churchwide service and outreach event. Across our synod, congregations are planning, cooperating, collaborating, and coming up with creative ways to serve in their local communities.
Trindle Spring Lutheran Church (Mechanicsburg) will provide several opportunities for service and a potluck meal following worship.
St. John's Lutheran Church (Maytown) plans will observe the day by doing a thorough cleaning of the interior of our local food bank building. After church, our Social Ministry Committee will host a free luncheon in our social hall for all volunteers; then we will travel to the nearby bank for an afternoon of cleaning. The "Donegal-Conoy Area Christian Food Bank" was co-founded by our congregation and, for 30 years, it has helped to feed neighbors in the Maytown, Marietta, Bainbridge, East-Donegal, and Conoy region with food provided and distributed by 15 area congregations. The bank currently serves over 300 families every month with a three-day supply of food.

2014 Norma Schweitzer Wood Lecture: Rev. Paul Déouyo

The lecture is free and open to the public. Déouyo teaches at the Lutheran Theological Institute in Meiganga, Cameroon. His lecture is titled "When a Church Finds Itself Entangled within a Secular Leadership and Becomes Powerless and Voiceless: the Challenge of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cameroon within the Mayo-Rey Division in the Northern Cameroon."
The Norma Schweitzer Wood lecture is an occasional offering of Gettysburg Seminary, in honor of the Dean Emerita, on topics exploring social justice. Rev. Déouyo's M.Phil. is from the School of Mission and Theology in Stavanger, Norway. His doctoral studies were done in South Africa. He was ordained in 1996.
