 Yellow: Wear it. Share it.
In ELCA circles, yellow is the new black, and Sunday, September 7, will be the second "God's work. Our hands." churchwide service and outreach event. Across our synod, congregations are planning, cooperating, collaborating, and coming up with creative ways to serve in their local communities.
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (Lebanon) and the Lebanon Lutheran Cooperative Ministry are planning a menu of opportunities from which participants may choose, including packing school and health kits for LWR, volunteering at the Lebanon County Humane Society shelter, yard cleanup (weeding, trimming bushes, etc.) for older members of the community who might not be able to do it for themselves, and picking and packing produce from the Co-op garden to share with neighbors, and community park clean-up. Other projects are still in the works.
Tree of Life Lutheran (Harrisburg) will be doing a variety of smaller projects in the hope of involving lots of people at different times - cleanup day at Christ Lutheran Health Ministries, craft kit assembly at Caitlin's Smiles, outdoor trash pick up at Wildwood Park, volunteers to staff the Girls on the Run Half Marathon, a project at Diakon Wilderness Center, and more.
Folks at West Cumberland Parish (Centerville ELC and St. Matthew ELC) are joining together on September 7 to help the Fruitbelt Ministry, an outreach to migrant farmworkers.
Following a single worship service on September 7, the folks of Memorial Lutheran (Shippensburg) will head to Shippensburg's Memorial Park to clean up the facilities and tend to the Peace Garden.
Check out the video featuring Presiding Bishop Eaton. Share it with your congregation and start seeing yellow!

Need More Ideas? Looking for Resources or Guidance?
The Office for Children, Youth & Family Ministry encourages you to consider cross-generational service opportunities that bring children and youth into service and conversation alongside adults who may be a generation or two older. This strengthens the relationship among your congregational members, helps in children's faith formative processes, AND helps your congregation to act as the presence of Jesus in the world around you. September 7th is Rally Day for many congregations, so add to the day by including a morning or afternoon of service in your congregation or community. For ideas, contact Charlie Roberts, Director for Children, Youth & Family, at croberts@lss-elca.org. Then, share your God's Work, Our Hands event photos to our synod's Office for CYFM Facebook page! Remember that Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Pa (LAMPa) has ready-made congregational opportunities for God's Work. Our Hands. Our Voices.--a dedicated day of service and advocacy.
