Food Packaging Event
June 5, 2014
7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Messiah College (Brubaker Auditorium in Eisenhower Campus Center)
You are invited to participate in a food packaging event that will provide 300,000 or more meals (rice and beans) to people in Central Pennsylvania. This mammoth event will take 12 hours, 900 volunteers (working in three-hour shifts) and $75,000 to meet our goal. This sounds like a lot, but if each synod congregation contributes $325 and four volunteers, we can feed a multitude through our simple gifts.
What happens on the day of the event? There will be five areas of activity.
- The first area is the registration of all volunteers in the lobby of the Eisenhower Campus Center.
- The second space is the prep area where volunteers receive hair nets, aprons, and hand sanitizer.
- The third area is the staging/training space where volunteers are placed into groups of 10 for working at a station. The groups wait for their turn to be escorted to a station on the floor to package the food.
- The fourth area is called the "Floor" where all of the food packaging is accomplished.
- The fifth area is the "Back" where the boxes of meals are loaded onto the Central PA Food Bank truck and shipped.
Want to volunteer? Register online individually, or sign up a group of volunteers from your congregation. Rick Baldwin, Thrivent Financial, is serving as volunteer coordinator for this event. - Click here to access the online registration site.
- Choose one or more three-hour shifts.
- Purchase free "tickets" for the shift(s) of your choice. If you are signing up a group of volunteers, you do not need to provide the names of your volunteers. However, tickets for the entire group will be sent in your name and you will be responsible for printing the tickets and distributing them to your group.
