Lutheran Disaster Response: Typhoon Haiyan

One of the most powerful storms ever recorded, Super Typhoon Haiyan, crashed across the central islands of the Philippines on November 7. With winds of over 150 miles per hour and torrential rains, it has forced millions of people to flee their homes. More than 3,600 lives have been lost, and the destruction is devastating.

Already the Lutheran Disaster Response has committed $1 million to provide for immediate needs and will remain in the Philippines until there is no longer a need. More help is needed. Please consider how you might be called to help.

Click here to go to the ELCA website for more information, resources, and opportunities to give.

Serve, Learn, Grow with Diaconos for Youth Groups

Calling all youth leaders! This is the program you've been looking for. Diaconos is a summer service ministry experience geared towards youth groups, right in your own back yard. Based out of Camp Kirchenwald, groups work together in Christian fellowship to share the Good News through service to our community, just as Christ instructed. In this physical expression of loving our neighbors, Diaconos empowers the youth of your congregation and strengthens the church. Additionally, the program allows for exciting recreational and adventure opportunities that have been a standard of fun at Kirchenwald for years. With a flexible schedule and dedicated staff (we'll do most of the behind-the-scenes work for you), you can truly shape your week to best fit the goals of your group. Call Zach Weiss at 717.964.3121 for more information and to register.

Wanted
Pastor R. E. Langford, Jr., retired, is seeking a dozen or so copies of the 3rd Setting from the Service Book and Hymnal, a plainsong setting based on the Missa Orbis Factor. If you have copies you are willing to share or know how he can get hold of copies, please contact him by e-mail at:  [email protected].

Pastor Hope Knobler is looking for a copy of the accompaniment version of the Lutheran Book of Worship, preferably with guitar chords. If you have one to pass along, please contact her at [email protected].

To Share

St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Adamstown has changed their sanctuary lighting so we have available for free 12 - 500 watt Mogul bulbs (they have the bigger base is what the mogul means) - these are used but still good.  We also have 32 - 150 watt longlife A-23 bulbs never used.  We also have a lot of 60 watt bulbs.  We went to energy efficient bulbs.  But since the 500 watt bulbs are expensive we want to try and help a church out who might need them. If you have any questions on the bulbs or would like them contact Pastor Sandy Gideon at 484-4885 or e-mail [email protected] and we can get you in touch with our properties person.  We can try to meet you somewhere to help in getting them to you.
