Time to Update Your ConstitutionAt the Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church held in Pittsburgh in August of 2013, amendments were made to the Model Constitution for Congregations. It is now time to update your congregation's constitution, according to the provisions of *C17.04. , to include these amendments. These amendments may be made by a simple majority vote at any Congregation Meeting without presentation at a prior Congregation Meeting provided that the Congregation Council has submitted by mail or electronic means notice to the congregation of such amendments at least 30 days prior to the meeting. These amendments can be found on our synod's Web site by clicking here. If your congregation's constitution has not been amended to include the amendments made at the earlier 2011 Churchwide Assembly, it is best to use the Model Constitution for Congregations as a guide. The Model Constitution for Congregations also can be found on our Web site by clicking here. After these amendments have been adopted by your congregation, please send a copy of your amended constitution to Pastor Thomas E. McKee, synod secretary at 900 S. Arlington Avenue, Suite 220B, Harrisburg, PA 17109 for inclusion in your congregation's files. If you have any questions about this process, please contact Pastor Thomas E. McKee, synod secretary, at 800-692-7282, ext. 111, or at [email protected].
