Summerfest registrations remain open and spots ARE available. To attend, please contact the Office for Children, Youth & Family Ministry at croberts@lss-elca.org, or come to the registration table in the Upper Camp Pavilion, beginning at 11:00 AM. Cost is $15 per person, and an offering will be taken during worship. We invite all who attend to bring a lawn or bag chair, and a water bottle.

 

We welcome Winterfest band leader Nate Young, along with Elizabeth & Tasha Peter, who will perform Christian, Jazz and contemporary music throughout the day. We have planned activities for a variety of ages, and encourage folks who are interested to come ready to play or to hike the scenic Nawakwa countryside. Our day will conclude with worship with Holy Communion, in the Upper Camp Pavilion, led by Pastor Beth Martini and featuring music from both Agape and Nate Young.

Immediate Need for Kitchen/Laundry Appliances!

A number of congregations are working together to provide a concurrent internship opportunity for Pastor Del Akech Del at St. Peter Lutheran Church, York, in conjunction with his ministry to the Sudanese Worshiping Community which meets at Tree of Life Harrisburg.

 

Grace Lutheran Church, York, is offering their parsonage to him.  However, the parsonage needs a refrigerator, stove, washer, dryer, and dishwasher.  If anyone would like to donate one or more of the above appliances, please call Pastor Beth Schlegel at 854-0589 or email her: Pastorschlegel@live.com 


Ordinations & Consecration

 

 

Alex R. Martini, Tina M. Melusky, and George B. Scott will be ordained in the ministry of Word and Sacrament and Laura L. Ramsey will be consecrated in the ministry of Word and service during a Celebration of Holy Eucharist on Friday, August 2, at 7:00 p.m. Bishop Hoover will preach and preside at the Eucharist and the rites of ordination and consecration which will take place at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York, PA.

 

Alex has been called to serve as pastor at St. Paul, Littlestown, in the Hanover Conference. Tina has been called to serve as pastor at Grace, Red Lion, in the South York Conference. George has been called serve as pastor at Trinity, East Berlin, in the Hanover Conference. Laura has been called by Synod Council to serve as staff chaplain at Women and Babies Hospital at Lancaster General Health.

 

Rostered leaders are invited to vest and process. The color of the day is red. A reception will follow the service in the church Fellowship Hall.


Support Group of Hope for Rostered Leaders

 
With the synod's approval and backing, Rev. Sadie C. Pounder would like to start a Support Group of Hope for any rostered leaders with serious illness (physical or mental health), current or in the past, or who are the caregiver for someone with these life challenges.  If interested, please contact Pr Pounder at spounder718@yahoo.com or 717 357-2779.  Day and time of group will  
be determined by participants.

...to attend the 25th anniversary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America celebration banquet dinner and music festival program.

 

 

The dinner and music festival will be held on Friday, August 16 in the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, 1000 Fort Duquesne Boulevard, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A reception with a cash bar will begin at 6:00 p.m., and the celebration dinner and music festival will follow at 6:30 p.m. The cost to attend the banquet is $60 per person. After dinner, we will enjoy an evening of singing together in creative ways: well-known songs and hymns and some newer to our growing memory bank, but all loved. Participants can anticipate energy, fun, and surprise, led by two musical servants of the ELCA -David Cherwien and Mark Sedio -  assisted by the assembly's worship musicians, and, of course, the assembly itself.

 

David Cherwien is cantor at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minn., and artistic director of the National Lutheran Choir, also based in the Twin Cities. A native Minnesotan (and Lutheran) he has studied and served churches in Berlin, Seattle, Chicago, and Minneapolis. He has published music for worship and serves the church at large providing hymn festivals and workshops in many states.

 

Mark Sedio is an Associate in Ministry and cantor at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minn.  From 1985-2008 he was staff musician at Luther Seminary (St. Paul, Minn.). He also has held positions at Mount Olive Lutheran Church (Minneapolis, Minn.), Augsburg College, Gustavus Adolphus College, and St. Paul Lutheran Church (Davenport, Iowa).

...for Pastor Jay Eickhoff
(Christ, New Bloomfield/Perry Conference), whose 58-year old brother, Gary K. Eickhoff, died suddenly Wednesday, July 10, of a massive heart attack. A
Memorial Service was held July 22, at St. John Lutheran in Hatboro, PA.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Abington Township Police Pension Association, PO Box 315, Abington, PA., 19001-0315; or the Independent Fire Company, 609 Greenwood Avenue, Jenkintown, PA., 19046.

Zion Lutheran Church
Hummelstown


Zion will celebrate the opening of its Faith Formation Center with a Blessing and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 9:30 a.m.. Bishop-Elect Dunlop will preach at all three worship services (8:00 a.m., 9:45 a.m., and 10:45 a.m.) and will join Pastor Wayne Moritz in the ribbon cutting. Deacon Marsha Roscoe will lead an intergenerational faith formation event in the Center at 9:45 a.m. A noon reception is planned, and then members of the congregation will spend the afternoon in hands-on mission in Hummelstown as part of "God's Work. Our Hands." Sunday.

The Faith Formation Center at Zion recognizes that faith formation is a  24x7x365 reality with the potential to affect all areas of one's life and health. Using a variety of on-site, virtual, and both small and large group opportunities, the Faith Formation Center will provide "

LAMPa is launching this initiative to continue the conversation. Consider adding an advocacy component to your September 8 plans, to enhance and deepen your service. Writing letters to legislators, conducting advocacy training, sending letters to the editor are all ways to raise your voice to support policies that fight hunger and persistent poverty. Contact the LAMPa office for advocacy ideas related to your area of service, or use one of the following LAMPa resources to take action on specific issues. Lutherans Restoring Creation Training

Lutheran Theological Seminary Gettysburg

People of faith are called to care for the Earth by reducing our negative impact upon God's creation and by finding ways to be effective and faithful stewards. Lutherans have unique resources to empower collaborative and effective restoration. This training equips lay and rostered leaders to address creation  care issues and create an action plan to put into use in the congregation, our synod, and  local communities. Food, lodging and materials will be covered by Lutherans Restoring Creation. Space is extremely limited, as the official registration deadline has passed. DUTCH DAY AT ST. MATTHEW, HANOVER

On Saturday, July 27th, St. Matthew, Hanover, will be having a huge indoor flea market in connection with Hanover's annual Dutch Day. Doors will open at 7:00 a.m. All proceeds will go toward supporting the Lantern Hill mission in Ensenada, Mexico and St. Matthew's mission team which is going there in August.
