Trinity, Colebrook pledges $3,500 for water well project
Brush your teeth this morning? Wake up with a hot shower? Brew your favorite beans for breakfast? Those are just a few of the ways we used water today, a resource that many of us take for granted. Pastor Amani Hosea Mwaijande, student at Gettysburg Seminary, visited Trinity, Colebrook, and shared stories about the need for clean water at Trinity's companion congregation, Kiwira Coal Mine in the Konde Diocese. The congregation in Colebrook has raised $1,105 (with additional monies pledged) to build a water well at Kiwira Coal Mine. Trinity congregation has set a goal to raise $3,500 by May 1 and is confident that the goal will be met prior to Pastor Amani's departure following his graduation from seminary in May. When Pastor Amani returns to Kiwira Coal Mine congregation, he will coordinate the building of the well. God's work. Our hands.

All mine are yours, and yours are mine
new blog post
This month and next there are 14 gatherings all over our synod where folks are talking about the future. Specifically, they are tasked with talking about the mission of the synod moving forward, and what kind of gifts will be needed in our next bishop.
A few of these gatherings, or conference assemblies, have already taken place. I hear in them a theme that emerged in the listening posts: cooperation. At one conference assembly, I was sitting at a table with several folks, one of them a young adult. When someone in the room lifted up cooperation among congregations as a mission priority moving forward, this young person nodded. She chimed in, even, saying that working together we could be more effective and problem-solve together. A clergy person nearby responded, "Yes, we should. But it's tough because there was a day that we wouldn't even speak to the congregation across the street because we were in competition with them. They might steal our members." There were several nods in agreement around the room at that comment. But the young adult looked shocked. Read more... |
