Epiphany Luncheon raises $500 for ELCA Malaria Campaign

Chicken with green bananas.  Braised cabbage.  African fruit salad with toasted coconut.  These were just a few of the savory delicacies prepared by a cadre of volunteers who worked long and hard to provide a feast for the Festival of Epiphany at AmaniAndFriendTrinity, Camp Hill.  Pastor Amani Mwaijande, student at Gettysburg Seminary, shared an insider's view of Tanzania and some fascinating (but sad) insights into the effects of malaria on families in the Konde Diocese.  Rachel Norris, a Trinity sixth-grader, presented Pastor Amani with a "Knots for Nets" woven bracelet, one of many created by Trinity youth in the colors of African flags.  The proceeds from the sale of the bracelets has "netted" $1,100 for the ELCA Malaria Campaign.

A young pastor friend of mine said to me recently, "Everyone gets so anxious about the declining membership and giving in the Lutheran church, because they remember a different time, a different church. But I have grown up in this declining church. I don't know any other church."  Read more...
