New NACCHO Policy Statement: Smokeless Tobacco Products
The NACCHO Board of Directors recently approved a new policy statement, "Regulation of Smokeless and Emerging Tobacco Products." NACCHO's policy statements not only inform our national voice for local health departments, but they can also support your local and state voice for policy development and stakeholder education work. CDC Launches Tips From Former Smokers 2013 Campaign CDC's Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) has launched the second round of the Tips From Former Smokers campaign. Beginning April 1, ads featuring new participants with a wide range of tobacco-related health conditions will run for at least 12 weeks through various media outlets nationwide. Visit the Tips website for information on how your local health department can leverage the campaign using FREE resources available for download, including new ads, sample press releases, Spanish-language materials, website badges and buttons, and more.

News: Cigarette Graphic Warning Labels Decision Will Not Be AppealedOn March 19, the U.S. government announced that it will not appeal the DC Circuit decision striking down the proposed graphic warning labels on cigarette packages, which contained images depicting the dangers of smoking and encouraging smokers to quit. Report: E-Cigarette Use Growing Rapidly Use of electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, is on the rise, according to a study by the CDC. In 2011, about 21 percent of adults who smoked cigarettes had used e-cigarettes, up from about 10 percent in 2010.
