 Greetings!
Most of us will be celebrating the holidays surrounded by family and friends. Many of us will attend an event at work, enjoy lunches with colleagues, friends will host parties and our homes will welcome our cherished families. Now, more than ever, we think of those that do not share our many blessings. This year the NRI family has banded together to raise money for the Northern Illinois Food Bank. As of today, we have raised over $1,000 which will be donated to the Food Bank for meals for those in need. All of us at NRI wish you and yours the very happiest of holidays.

'Tis the Season of Goodwill!

Few people have missed the recent good samaritan story that has swept the internet about the police officer that selflessly bought a pair of warm socks and boots for a barefoot homeless man in NYC. The story went viral because people ("we") really do like to hear about and participate in charitable acts. The young police officer in this story showed us that opportunities for compassion and kindness are all around us, even when we're on the job.
At this time of the year, as we reflect on how thankful we are for all our blessings, we tend to have a heightened awareness for those less fortunate than us. This often helps to spark the spirit of giving. Each year at NRI, with input from our employees, we choose to sponsor a charity that helps the people in our community. This year we are supporting the Northern Illinois Food Bank. The Food Bank spans across 13 of our neighboring counties, feeding over 60,000 people each week.
Our employees put their heads together and we kicked off our fundraising efforts with a "Soup Kitchen" lunch. Employees prepared their special recipes for homeade soups, breads, brownies and cookies. We enjoyed taste testing the soups and baked goods and then sat down together to share a delicious meal. All the funds raised from the "Soup Kitchen" are going to purchase food for the Northern Illinois Food Bank. In addition, we are buying "dress down" days and raffling off an IPAD, donated by NRI to raise additional money.
Our plan is to donate enough money to provide 6000 meals to people in need. There are so many compassionate stories that can be shared at this time of the year. We would love to hear what you or your company are doing during the holiday season.
