A Note from Jane

A Thanks & Giving Service

Are you looking for opportunities for your children to know the importance of giving this Thanksgiving? Maybe a family-friendly event to help end hunger in our area? Come join with your neighbors on the Broadneck peninsula to help package meals for the Maryland Foodbank.

On a regular basis, I meet with religious leaders from a variety of churches in the Broadneck area -- St. Andrew by the Bay, Christ Our Anchor Presbyterian, Broadneck Baptist and the Methodist churches of Asbury and Cape St. Claire.

This group, the Broadneck Ministerium, has sponsored a community Thanksgiving service for a number of years. This year, the service is being transformed! We are gathering to do an outreach project and liturgy this Sunday, November 22. As we work, the Third Sunday Band will be playing from 4pm until 5:45pm. We are meeting in the Fellowship Hall of Asbury Methodist Church, 78 Church Road, in Arnold. We start at 4pm on Sunday and expect to be finished with a worship service at 5:00. Everything is provided. We just need some able hands to assemble the meal boxes. May this be a season for thanks and giving.
stewardship Stewardship Pledge Reminder

Our current total:     $659,929

Total pledges received: 169
(For 2015 we had 222 people/families pledge.)

New pledgers:  21!

We still need $130k to fund our program priorities as set by the listening sessions. Our church leaders are looking at budget numbers now.

thbaskets
Thanksgiving Baskets Pickup

For those participating in the Thanksgiving baskets program and will be delivering, the turkeys will be available for pick-up with delivery directions in the Parish Hall this Sunday or by separate arrangement. If you can help, please contact Barbara Marder at 410-518-9978 or at [email protected].
coatdrive Coat Drive Until Dec. 1

Parishioners Mike Winn, Tommy Bowers and Jennifer Macris volunteer for a non-profit called Touchstones Discussion Project (www.touchstones.org) that offers unique discussion opportunities for prisoners. Touchstones Discussion Project recently launched a pilot educational program at the Maryland Correctional Institute for Women (MCI-W). With 10% of the women in that facility serving life sentences, the majority of the women will be released. While many women return to their families, others have little or no connection or support outside of prison. They will re-enter society only with the very little that the prison issues them upon departure. Please help us to provide warm coats for women who will be released during the winter months. Donate your gently used women's coats (sizes XS-XL) between now and Dec. 1. There is a donation box in the narthex. Touchstones will deliver the coats to the prison on Dec. 2.
Adventwreaths Advent Wreathmaking on Nov. 29

Join us as we begin the 2015 Advent journey with our annual Advent Wreathmaking family-friendly event on Sunday, Nov. 29, during the 10:15 formation hour in the Parish Hall. (There will be no children's formation programs that morning.) We will need evergreen, holly, and magnolia cuttings as well as pine cones to be left on Saturday, Nov. 28 or the morning of the 29th by 8:30 a.m. on the Parish Hall steps.
Oliver Advent Study - The Poetry of Mary Oliver

The Rev. Jane Milliken Hague will lead an Advent study exploring the poetry of Mary Oliver on Nov. 29, Dec. 7, and Dec. 14. Classes will be held in the mornings at 10 a.m. and evenings at 6:45 p.m. in the formation building. Here is a link to books of Mary Oliver, though it is not necessary to purchase anything for the study.
guildlunch  Guild Christmas Luncheon on Dec. 2

St. Margaret's Guild is inviting all to their Christmas Luncheon to be held on Weds., Dec. 2, in the Parish Hall. The lunch, catered by the B.E.S.T. catering program of the Light House, will be served at 1 p.m. Special guest Mary Ann Jung will provide a performance as Rosie the Riveter. Tickets are $35. Checks can be made out to "St. Margaret's Church" with "Guild Luncheon" on the memo line. Deadline is Friday, Nov. 27.
LessonsCarols Advent Lessons & Carols on Dec. 6 @ 5pm

At St. Margaret's Church, a service of Advent Lessons and Carols provides an antidote to the increasing commercial and social pressures that come with the Christmas holiday season.  Instead of singing Christmas carols prior to the Festival of Christmas, the congregation and choirs of St. Margaret's sing carols and hymns that speak to the promise of Christ's coming.  These are interspersed between lessons from scripture read by a variety of people and choral anthems sung by the choir.  Adding to the contemplative nature of the service is the Advent Procession.  The service begins in darkness and the choir begins singing at the back of the church.  With each lesson, a candle is lit, the church becomes bright and the choir moves forward towards the altar.
caroling Christmas Caroling on Dec. 13

Join us for a family caroling event on Sunday, December 13th.  Following formation classes there will be card making and crafts in the new Fellowship Hall.  A light lunch will be served at noon followed by Christmas caroling to home-bound parishioners and those at Future Care assisted living.  Please sign up here early so we can plan accordingly!  This event is open to all ages and sure to bring smiles to many!  For questions, contact Jenelle Mejia at [email protected]
BabyDrive  Baby Pantry Drive This December

This December, we will join with St. Margaret's Day School and hold a drive for the county's Emergency Baby Pantry. Jenelle will visit Sunday School classes on Dec. 6, discuss the mission of the pantry and issue a challenge to students to bring in 100 bags of diapers. If we meet the 100 bags goal, Rev. Peter will provide a special treat for all!  Also, we will soon have a giving tree located in the narthex with "ornaments" that list other needed items. Take the ornament and bring in the new, unwrapped item and place in the donation boxes.

Join the green side.
