Event News You Can Use
April 2014
Happy Spring!  Happy Passover! Happy Easter!

April offers much to celebrate so I hope you enjoy!

In this month's newsletter, I share seating strategies for your upcoming events, including fundraising dinners, as well as yummy inspiration for your spring/Easter.  (Hint: Somebunny will make crudite look absolutely appealing)!

As always, thank you for reading, commenting on and sharing my 'eventful' news!

{event strategy} Seating Strategies

Have you seen the Walmart Easter TV commercial on "seating arrangements?"  The hostess seats her vegetarian sister away from the ham; gluten guests away from the rolls; and kids in front of the vegetables in hopes that they'll eat them!  It's a funny reminder that seating arrangements are important for creating memorable experiences!

Below are three seating strategies for a Gala dinner ... fresh from seating 500 sponsors, ambassadors and (former) members of congress at the Mellon Auditorium 2 weeks ago:

#1. Seat emcees, speakers and honorees close to the stage to expedite the program and minimize dead time.

#2. Seat top sponsors at front and center tables. Seat remaining sponsors by level; highest to lowest, front to back.

#3.  Seat special guests according to interests - keeping in mind professional, political, cultural and sometimes, religious affiliations.  For example, we placed a congressman with interests in Asia with the Japanese sponsor.  Talk about improved foreign relations!!

More help with seating arrangements?  Let's talk!

Looking for something new this spring/Easter?  This adorable, and edible, bunny is my most popular pin on Pinterest.  I made him for a potluck spring fling many years ago; he was a hit then, too ... and so easy to make!
{community engagement}

Usually, I promote upcoming community events by other organizations but today, I have my own event to share.  As you know, I'm participating in this year's Leadership Fairfax signature program (Best Class of 2014!) and my Program Day is finally coming up!

Who are the Invisible Faces of Fairfax County?
Thursday, May 15
8:00 am - 5:00 pm

My "Purple Team" colleagues and I have developed a great program of local county, nonprofit and for-profit experts as well as self-advocates, including lunch with clients at the Embry Rucker Community Shelter.  It should be a profound experience for everyone!
