Event News You Can Use
November 2012

headshot Dear friend,

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the theme of this month's newsletter is "Give Thanks" with helpful strategies, best practices and inspiring ideas for showing appreciation to clients and employees.

It's also a good opportunity for me to thank YOU for continually supporting my business.  I sincerely appreciate you reading my newsletter, forwarding it to friends, sharing comments, and referring new clients.  As a result of your kindness, I am a successful small business owner and special event professional.  Thank you!!!

Wishing you a wonderful holiday season,

{event strategies} Give Thanks!

Is your business successful because you have the best customers?  That's what Lauryn Eadie of Circadian Realty (and Sherry Spinelli of Long & Foster) told me when she requested help to plan her Client Appreciation Party.  We designed an interactive reception at The Wine House in Fairfax, VA.   The venue's inviting atmosphere felt like Lauryn was entertaining in her own home while the wine tasting encouraged the new homeowners to mingle with "neighbors".

On the flip-side, many businesses thrive because of hardworking employees.  My blog post on Employee Appreciation suggests 5 ideas for showing your appreciation ... from simple to complex production, as well as least to most expensive.

What about a hybrid option ... an employee party to wrap client holiday gifts modeled after this It's a Wrap Holiday Party (I Am Modern article, Holiday 2011)?  I'm meeting with a DC staffing agency this week to work out the details; shall I plan your party, too?!!

Splurge on the Cake
In the current issue of I Am Modern magazine (Fall 2012), I wrote a tongue-in-cheek article about planning kid's birthday parties called "Splurge on the Cake".  Basically, kids could care less about the fuss; they just want to play with friends ... and eat cake (and hear friends sing "cha-cha-cha, kumbaya, hi-ya!")!  But where can you buy fun cakes that taste as great as they look?  Below are my go-to-places for amazing cakes:

Lille Patisserie, Herndon - under the hula skirt (above) was the most delicious strawberry shortcake
Amphora Bakery, Herndon - yummy homemade fruit pies, too
Fluffy Thoughts, McLean- most delicious baseball groom's cake
Edibles Incredible, Reston - cute Angry Birds birthday cake
Harris Teeter - favorite grocery store cake per an informal poll of moms

What is your go-to-place for amazing cakes?

Waacornsnt to make something this Thanksgiving that everyone will enjoy?  Make a batch (or 2) of these yummy acorns ... Hershey's Kiss with a mini Nutter Butter cookie and chocolate chip; assemble with a little chocolate frosting.
