Message from Executive Director

Our community has experienced many sad and tragic losses in the past few months. They have been jolting to all, including those of us in the mental health field. As the Executive Director of Adolescent Counseling Services and a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, I understand mental illnesses and adolescents. But all of my training and years of working in this field do not help me deal with the emotions I feel following each suicide. If I am experiencing these deep, anxious, and unsettling feelings, I know others are too.

Speak! Feel! Be! Youth and Parent Support Group

In response to the increased need Adolescent Counseling Services (ACS) has seen in our programs following the recent tragedies on the Peninsula, we are starting a new support group for youth and parents. "Speak! Feel! Be!" starts on Saturday, February 14, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and will run for eight consecutive Saturdays at ACS' main office at 1717 Embarcadero Road, Suite 4000, in Palo Alto. The first four weeks are for youth only to share their reactions, feelings, and emotions in a safe space. The second four weeks are for parents seeking support and guidance on how to help their youth through these difficult times. The "Speak! Feel! Be!" support group will be co-facilitated by two ACS therapists.
