Medicare Physician Payment Reductions Begin April 1
After a two month delay, Congress allowed a two percent across-the-board cut to Medicare to become effective on March 1. Actual cuts will begin on April 1. Known as sequestration, the payment adjustment will be applied to all claims after determining coinsurance, any applicable deductibles, and any applicable Medicare Secondary Payment adjustments.

Questions about reimbursement should be directed to your Medicare claims administration contractor. The next fiscal cliff will be March 27, when Congress will need to pass a continuing resolution to keep the government open for the rest of the fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30, 2013.
SVS President Honored at AVF Meeting
SVS President Peter Gloviczki, MD, was presented with the prestigious Founders Award at the recent  American Venous Forum meeting in Phoenix.  The Founder's Award, established in 2004, was created to recognize an individual who has made important contributions to the field of venous and lymphatic disease and whose exceptional efforts have left an indelible mark on the American Venous Forum.
Volunteers Needed for FEVAR Writing Groups
The fenestrated endovascular aneurysm report (FEVAR) is soon expected to become more widely used for the treatment of juxtarenal and suprarenal aneurysms. As a result, SVS is seeking interested individuals to serve on two new writing groups, reporting standards and practice guidelines, for fenestrated endovascular aneurysm repair.

To participate, applicants should have significant expertise in fenestrated endovascular aneurysm repair.  Experience in clinical research methodology and guideline development is desirable.

Writing group service will require several hours of work over the next six to 12 months.  Most writing group interaction will occur by teleconference but one or more meetings may be scheduled, likely at the Vascular Annual Meeting®.  Applicants should be ready to work on a strict timeline.

To be considered for either the reporting standards writing group or the practice guidelines writing group, please complete a short application by March 25, found at:  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WD2W2Y9.
IAC Research Award Program
As a sponsoring organization of the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), SVS members have been invited to submit proposals regarding accreditation and quality improvement for the 2013 IAC Research Award Program.

Eligible individuals and organizations applying for this research opportunity should submit a letter of intent to the IAC no later than April 1. The IAC Research Committee will award grants up to $75,000 to qualifying applicants in October. Proposals of lesser amounts will be considered.
Research Opportunities Resource on VascularWeb
SVS seeks to identify vascular surgery research opportunities for medical students, residents, and trainees. Research Opportunities on VascularWeb allows SVS members to post opportunities and provides a listing for candidates to search. Please take the time to submit any research opportunities you may have at your institution, including summer opportunities.
