Mystical Food for Thought

What a joy and privilege to be part of St. Peter's faith community! My role as "formation partner" is a wonderful experiment in expanding and, I hope, deepening the ways for us to attend to the presence and power of God in our lives and in our midst. Faith for me is far more a verb than a noun, more living in holy relationship than a set of beliefs. After all, if God is alive and well and active in our lives, the least we can do is figure out how to pay attention.

Individually, that can mean spiritual companionship-listening together for how God is (or wants to be) at work in our lives...and how we might turn toward that inner Light. Together, that can mean exploring the dimensions of discipleship-the upcoming servant leadership course will focus on trying on six primary dynamics of "followership." And corporately, that can mean learning the dynamics of poverty and how it impacts so many who try to survive in center city Charlotte (register or read more about the Bridges Out of Poverty seminar).

One more idea. Most all of us have had "mountaintop" moments when we experienced the Presence and Love of God directly and unforgettably. The Christian mystics live there most all the time-and they maintain it's possible for us too! What about meeting Wednesdays at lunchtime to read and reflect on the writings of a mystic? Could be fun...perhaps we could call it Mystical Food for Thought!
