HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE OFFERED AT LIBRARY

For those of you interested in attending a Hunter Education Course, our Ray County class is set for October 15. It will be held at the Ray County Library at 215 E. Lexington Street in Richmond. The class will begin at 1pm and run no later than 5pm.
The Missouri Department of Conservation recently revised the Hunter-Ed course for student convenience and to emphasize hands-on training. The class is now set up in two portions: the Knowledge portion and the Skills portion. Students can take the Knowledge portion of the class in one of three ways: 1) as an online course 2) by reading and reviewing a workbook or 3) by attending a Knowledge class. The online class is very convenient and easy to access. There is a $10 charge for students who use this method, however. If you would like to obtain a Hunter Ed Manual, you can call our office at 816-271-3100 and request one be mailed to you for free. I will also have a few at the Ray County Library for easy pick up.
All students must attend a Skills session to complete their hunter certification. This part is a maximum of 4 hours where students rotate to stations to demonstrate their ability to safely handle firearms and ammunition.
The hunter education course is a FREE class that is offered to those who are 11 years of age or older who are interested in firearms safety, hunting ethics, and wildlife management. It is required of anyone who is purchasing a firearms permit.
Interested students must pre- register online for the class. Please go to
www.mdc.mo.gov and enter the Hunter Education portion of the web site. You can also check out other available classes in our area if the Ray County class doesn't work for your schedule. If you do not have computer access, you may fill out a form at the classroom, but please call me to let me know you plan to attend so we don't overbook the room. I am available at 816-390-0327.
I'd like to thank Ray County Library and their staff for allowing us to use their building as a public service to the community.
