Dedicated to your success

Angie Anton - OHS Instructor

Angie teaches a variety of courses for our OHS Certificate Program including Incident Investigation, Behaviour Based Safety, Health and Safety Law and Safety

Hazard Recognition, Evaluation and Control.  She has been teaching with us since 2008 and her goal is to share her knowledge with students and along the way, through discussions and story sharing, also learn a little something from them as well. What she finds most rewarding about teaching is that moment when you can see that a student has learned a concept; "the moment the light bulb goes on" so to speak. They share with you that they never knew or understood the concept before and now they understand it to a point where they would be comfortable taking it back to their place or work and actually implementing it.

Fun Facts:

What might someone be surprised to know about you?

When I was a student attending the Medicine Hat College in the University Transfer Education program I was supposed to stand in front of the classroom and read out a passage from a book to my classmates and I was so scared and nervous I didn't do it - I took a 0% on that assignment because I was too terrified to get up in front of a group of people - WOW the times sure have changed since then!!!

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy reading (two of my most recent good reads included I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up For Education and Was Shot By the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai and Profiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy), camping and walking my dogs out in Echo Dale down the paths along the river and through the park.

What is your favorite day of the week?

Yes it is cliché, but I would have to say Friday.  It marks the end of a week and the beginning of one or two days where I can relax, do a little reading and enjoy my time out in the park with the dogs without having my "To Do" list hanging over my head.

Who is one person in history you would like to meet?

Mahatma Gandhi because of his courage, strength and unwavering pursuit of civil rights and freedom around the world.  He is also attributed with saying (even though this is highly debated - I don't care because it is indicative of Gandhi's spirit - even if he didn't actually say the words) - "Be the Change You Wish To See in the World"  this quote resonates with me and it is how I try to live my life.

If your life was turned into a movie, what actor would play you?

Meg Ryan, she is beautiful and has an effervescent personality - just the way I see myself LOL!!!

Where would you like to travel to/dream vacation?

To the Mediterranean - Turkey, Greece the Amalfi Coast = beautiful beaches, vineyards, island hopping, vineyards, citrus and olive groves, vineyards, almond trees and vineyards... get the picture?
