Dear Clients...

June brings the beginning of summer and for us, the beginning of a new team at DPC!  We welcome the addition of our three former apprentices to our staff.  Elizabeth, Mo, and Terry are now fully certified and are ready to take on clients.  We are excited to have them as part of our team, as they are fully represent what we stand for at DPC....they are dedicated, passionate and committed to the work.  Please congratulate them!

I will be taking a little time off in early June so that I can take my horse Rubaiyat to a competition in Wisconsin.  We are also looking forward to welcoming Toni Manzaneres, a Pilates teacher from Spain, who will be visiting the studio in mid June. 

As June days unfold, I hope you all enjoy a slower summer pace while continuing to enjoy a stronger, more flexible body for all your summer plans!

NEW FOR JULY! Beginner/Bring-A-Friend to Mat Class!!

Do you have a friend who has always wanted to try Pilates?

Has your instructor suggested that you join a mat class to enhance your weekly lesson?

Then we have a fun, easy way to add more Pilates to your life this summer!
Join us on Wednesday mornings in July at 7am for our new Mat Class!

This four week series will be tailored to the Beginner who would like to see how Pilates can enhance their life, but will of course be beneficial to more experienced clients as well!

The cost for each class is $10, but existing clients that bring a friend can join us at NO CHARGE! Sign up for one class or all four, whatever fits into your schedule!

Classes will meet at 7am for 45 minutes on: July 10, 17, 24, and 31.

CPE in Florida, May 22-26

Janice, Tina, and Trina wrapped up the end of May by traveling to Florida for Continuing Professional Education. The event included a CPE with top level Romana's Pilates Instructors from around the world, and a Level 1-4 Teacher Training Meeting. Everyone is feeling refreshed and ready to challenge our awesome clients even more!

I had only the vaguest idea what Pilates was and thought it was something only Hollywood stars did with personal trainers, until my friend Clare Crowston (another Charter Member!) enlightened me and we decided to check out the new studio in town.  I had been looking for some sort of physical therapy/exercise program to combat the increasingly aggravating shooting pains in my right hip from years of sitting in front of a computer screen.  I soon discovered that Pilates wasn't just an amazing overall strengthening and flexibility program: it also taught a transformative way of thinking about the body and learning how to sit, stand and move in a way that could prevent future aches and pains.

I started with 2 private lessons a week plus mat class on Fridays: my hip pain was a thing of the past after 4 or 5 weeks.  I felt those early lessons and mat classes pretty intensely, as I was using muscles I didn't even know I had.  I now have a weekly semi-private lesson, and attend mat class when I can.  Even with the reduction in official Pilates time, I still feel energized and realigned every time I leave the studio.The great thing about Pilates is there is always room for improvement and refinement.  I'm now about to celebrate 10 years with the Dulak Pilates Studio, and I still can't execute a perfect Teaser!!  But I know I can't karate-chop my way up there, and who knows: maybe Tina will get my upper abs in such great shape I'll be able to finally nail that Teaser in time for the 20th anniversary celebration.

I have been coming to the Center for 10 years.

I started Pilates because I had read about all of the benefits it can bring--greater awareness of body, better alignment--stronger core.

I think it has enhanced my life because I have strengthened my core--have great posture and flexibility. Pilates compliments my other fitness efforts.  I can also say that each time I have a lesson or do a mat class I leave feeling great!

Pilates has given me an incredibly helpful means to connect with my body in new and sometimes unexpected ways. It has taught me that I can always be stronger, braver, more open, and work harder and has let me do amazing things I never thought I would do (like hang from my feet from a metal frame!). It has given me a whole team of coaches, allies, and instructors, who really care how I am doing and want to help me do better. I think a lot of people don't appreciate how open Pilates is to every kind of body and level of ability - to be able to work hard, sweat, screw up in a place where no one cares what you look like is amazing. Apart from everything else, I think I stand up a lot taller now and that alone is invaluable.

Tip of the Month...from Mo Kolish

As summer starts to roll around, doing the stomach series every night before going to bed is a great way to look and feel your best: Single Leg Stretch, Double Leg Stretch, Single Straight Leg, Double Straight Leg, Crisscross.

Do five reps of each, with the exception of the crisscross which is three reps, and you'll have a stronger powerhouse in no time!

If you have not learned all five stomach exercises, work with your instructor to develop a nightly stomach routine that works for you.
