Greetings to the All School Alumni, The 2014 All School Alumni Reunion is two weeks away and we're excited to have you back on campus to renew old friendships and establish new relationships with the "family". Whether you attended MMA (Academy), SHSN (Nursing), MMHS (High School), MMJC (Jr. College) or MMC (College), we have a good mix of activities over this alumni weekend as we celebrate the great gift that the Sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery have given to all of us through the schools they established in the Benedictine tradition. Register on-line or on-campus, then come sign the "Heart of Mount Marty" Hallway, join us for an alumni picnic at the lake overlook, enjoy the first "Back to Bede" experience, walking tours, the traditional painting of the headstones in the Monastery cemetery, first time trap shooting "fun shoot", visit with the Sisters at Sr. Evangeline Anderson and Sr. Marie Helene Werdel's 90th birthday party, and make sure you are part of Saturday evenings "Hog on the Hill" pig roast and carnival games, and of course Sunday Mass. For additional information and registration for this event, please click on the link above. It's a great time to come back to Yankton and toast your time on the "Hill"! I look forward to seeing you then! Please feel free to contact me at anytime. Tom Lorang Named As MMC Interim President
Dr. Tom Lorang, long-time superintendent of Sioux Falls Catholic Schools (SFCS), will begin his tenure immediately, working part-time until July when he officially retires from SFCS. At that time, he will take on the full-time interim presidential duties at MMC.

Lorang began his career in the Yankton School District, working initially as a history and English teacher as well as an athletic coach before becoming a guidance counselor. In 1978, he accepted a position at O'Gorman High School in Sioux Falls. He was named the school's first lay principal in1979. Lorang helped organize Sioux Falls Catholic Schools (SFCS) in cooperation with all the parishes in the city in 1991 and became the organization's first, and until now, only superintendent.
"I'm excited to be back in Yankton after all these years, I see this as an opportunity to help a mission-oriented school and follow the Lord's calling. Mount Marty is in a position now where they need someone with an education background. I'm available, and I'm happy to jump in."

Alumni News Aaron Losing, C'01 Aaron Losing, the 2014 Lincoln (NE) Journal Star girls coach of the Year, has guided the Crofton, NE Warriors High School girl's basketball team to six state championships in his 10 years at the helm, including the past three Class C-2 titles. Crofton has been at state nine of the past 10 years, with a runner-up trophy in 2011 and third place showings in 2008 and 2009. The girls basketball program has gone to another level under his leadership, after going 27-1 this past season, Losing's career record is a sterling 257-39. "Looking back over the last 10 years, it's really kind of surreal," Losing said, looking at all the mementos and photos from those past teams that line the shelves and counter space along the wall of his social studies classroom at Crofton High School. Aaron's main reason for applying for the Crofton coaching position 10 years ago was to get back in the area after attending Mount Marty College. "I knew they (Crofton) had some good girls coming (after being an assistant for the girls program in 2001-02 while practice teaching at Crofton), so I thought this was a job worth going after," Losing said. "It's hard to believe I've been here this long and it's hard to believe what the girls have accomplished during that time," he added. "They've carried me along for the ride."
Jeff Egbert, C'84 Jeff Egbert, has been named interim CEO for Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, OH. Egbert has nearly 25 years of hospital executive experience, including stints as hospital CEO in Texas, Oregon, Alaska and Arizona, according to Rob Jay, chief operating officer with Regional Care Hospital Partners. Egbert is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, received his master's of science in healthcare administration from Trinity College and his bachelor's of science in biology/chemistry from Mount Marty College. Jeff and his wife of 24 years, Teri, have two sons, Bo, 20, and Ty, 14. Jay states, "Jeff has a tremendous record of success working with physicians and hospital employees to improve care and expand the range and depth of services provided at local hospitals. He has also served in interim leadership capacities at other facilities so he understands the unique challenges leading an organization in transition."

Sioux Falls Diocese's 125th Anniversary
The Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls will be celebrating its 125th anniversary beginning this fall so spread the word early for everyone in the diocese to "Save The Dates". As Bishop Paul J. Swain stated last October, "As we look forward to celebrating the 125th anniversary of the establishment of the Diocese of Sioux Falls, we remember with gratitude those missionary priests, sisters and brothers who first came to the territory and then the state of South Dakota to evangelize the native and immigrant populations. Most were members of religious orders. Their ministry over the years in parishes, education and health care has been a great gift." Yankton leads off the schedule September 19th with a liturgical celebration, picnic and entertainment on the campus of Mount Marty College. There will be a tribute to Bishop Martin Marty and all the Benedictines for their courageous missionary ministry and also celebrating the faith of the people in the southeast part of the diocese. Additional anniversary events via the link below will be held across the diocese which are designed to commemorate the anniversary, celebrate the faith and look to the future. Alums Spotlight Matt and Anne Ahmann This month's issue is special in that we have a married couple who both graduated from MMC, Matt Ahmann '95 and Anne (Dinslage) Ahmann '98. Matt was attending the University of Arizona and applied to transfer to a handful of schools, Yale, Dartmouth, et al., and was rejected. He needed a place to land, so his dad suggested he reach out to Coach Bob Tereshinski, his former Yankton College teammate about MMC. Matt adds, "in short, I wound up at MMC by accident, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me." Anne chose MMC because it offered a bachelor's degree in her field of study via a 2+2 program (2 years on campus, 2 years in an x-ray program), which was rare at the time. She visited the campus and liked it, which sealed the deal. Ironically, one of Matt's least favorite things, turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to him. As an incoming junior, he ended up in S. Cynthia's 8am M/W/F English class and wasn't happy about it, because at that time he was not an early morning person. However, as it turned out, Anne was in that class and he made sure to sit by her every class and within the month they were dating. With a wink and a smile Anne agrees that it was English class "made better"... (to read more, click here)

MMC Bicyclist at Iowa RAGBRAI
RAGBRAI XLII starts in Rock Valley, IA Sunday, July 20th and ends in Guttenberg, IA Saturday, July 26th. RAGBRAI which was started in 1973 by two Des Moines Register employees, has become the longest, largest and oldest bicycle touring event in the world. Over the years it has been attended and covered by every major news outlet from ABC/ESPN to Time Magazine. One key to RAGBRAI's success could be Bill Gilbert of Sports Illustrated who came on the second ride and wrote enthusiastically about it, prompting thousands to come. In 2005, Sports Illustrated named RAGBRAI as one of the 25 Summer Essentials, things that absolutely must be done before Labor Day.
MMC's Chief Advancement Officer Barb Rezac is participating in RAGBRAI for the seventh year in a row. She will be wearing a specially designed MMC biking jersey designed by Primal Wear, Inc., Denver, CO. There are a limited number of these specialty jerseys available through MMC in men's sizes XS-XXL for $75ea.
