Another Academic Year Has Begun!
Greetings to all Mount Marty Alumni, As we enter the beautiful fall season, students have retuned to the campus in full force and the sounds of the students are back! This brings back great memories for me as I experience my first academic school year as the Director of Alumni Relations. I recall the excitement, nervousness, and time of meeting new and old friends as a former student. Much is happening at the Mount these days! Be sure to read about the BIG changes taking place on campus re: the transformation of the old Library Building into a brand new Science and Nursing Complex. This renovation will make way for a new home for the Science and Nursing Departments. This place is definitely growing and thriving!!!! To help us keep you informed, please be sure to update us with your current home address, email address, and phone number(s). In addition we would love to hear about you and what you are doing as we all know in today's time, keeping connected is crucial. We would like especially to recognize all alumni who are currently serving or have served in our Armed Forces. Many former students have told me they have "lost touch" with their former friends/classmates and this is a way we can all say "thank you for your service." Please feel free to contact me. Have a great fall! Dave

Construction Underway on Science Center
On Thursday, August 15, Mount Marty College held a ground blessing that officially launched the construction and renovation of the new MMC Science Center & Nursing Center.
The ground blessing drew a large crowd from the Mount Marty College and Yankton community. The highlight of the event was when attendees were invited to take a whack at the Old Library walls with a golden sledgehammer.
Phase I of the MMC Science & Nursing Center is set to open August 2014, with Phase II beginning around the same time.

Both alumni are leading the design and animation charge for the series. Chad Ekroth, the President and CEO of ProPatterns, is a current member of MMC's Board of Trustees. (PRWeb)
Recent MMC graduate Brittany Little, originally from Castlewood, SD, is Flandreau's newest third grade teacher. The Parent's Perspective
When you usually think back to your days at Mount Marty, memories probably include your own unique experiences. However, many times we forget that the parents of our students are going through this journey as well.
The College recently received a letter from a parent of four MMC alumni. Her thoughts had a huge impact on the faculty and staff, so we wanted to share her thoughts with you as well.
On May 11th the last of the Korth children graduated!! I am writing to tell you how thankful for all of you I am. I was married at 17 and did not attend college. I am proud that I have been married for 32 years and my husband and I have been so blessed. Not going to college has always driven me to drive my kids to attend and graduate from a four year college The highest of goals I set as a young parent was that I really really wanted all of my kids to graduate from college!!! My children have been involved in almost every part of Mount Marty. . . . All of you who"coached" them I would like to say thank you!!!!
. . . As a young mother who never had the chance to attend college, with tears in my eyes and a humble heart, I thank you for giving my children such a wonderful education . From security to kitchen staff to the book store to the President, of course professors and most of all the sisters you will never know how indebted I feel to you for taking such great care of my children!! . . . I will miss you more than you can imagine! You will be FOREVER in my heart!! God Bless, Kim Korth, Proud mother of four Mount Marty Graduates!!! Miranda '03, Dustin '05, Kortney '08, Brett '13 |
