The Sights and Sound of Renovation
We welcomed students back to the Spring 2013 semester with sights and sounds of renovation. Few things are more exciting around a college campus.
During the semester break we began a major renovation of the serving line and dining hall. Students returned to the work in progress which we will complete in 2-3 weeks. New paint and enhancements in the dining hall and a new serving line that enhances food service capabilities are just the beginning. Upper Roncalli has been painted, thanks to Fr. Thomas. A decorative fireplace and television have been added to create a unique living room environment just outside of The Raven (our center for Campus Ministry and Student Activities). We are also painting the corridors in the Bede Residence Halls. Additional projects for the spring include renovation of the Bede Art Gallery and the kitchens in the residence hall lounges.
As Fr. Thomas told me recently when I commented on the smell of fresh paint, "You don't smell paint, you smell progress." I am excited about our progress and look forward to more. Your support of the College makes progress possible.

Mount Marty Rallies Around Coach Fernandez
The Mount Marty College Athletic Department is sponsoring a benefit raffle for the college's head women's softball coach and enrollment counselor, Albert Fernandez. The raffle will begin this Saturday, December 1 at 2 pm during the home Lancers basketball game in Cimpl Arena and continue through all the home Lancers basketball games this season.
Albert Fernandez, age 39, was recently diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Opting to seek treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, the road to recovery and the ATTACK on the cancer have just begun. All the proceeds from this benefit raffle will go directly to the Fernandez Family to help defray expenses that will be occurring as a result of his treatment.
To learn more about Albert's story and how you can help, read the Press & Dakotan's recent story "Nobody Fights Alone." |

Mount Marty College 'Family of the Year'
Mount Marty College recognized the Vandersnick family of O'Neill, Nebraska as the 2012-13 family of the year at the College's family weekend held in early November.
 | 2012 MMC Family of the Year: Vandersnicks of O'Neill, Neb. |
The Family of the Year decision takes into consideration a set of criteria. Generosity in home community or the MMC community, commitment to Christian Values, ability to touch the lives of many people, and the involvement of the family with Mount Marty College and it's loyalty to the instruction and their church and civic involvement.
The Vandersnick's exemplify all that the College and committee were looking for in the Family of the Year. Mrs. Vandersnick is a small business owner in O'Neill, Nebraska and taught CCD for many years in their local church parish along with volunteering as a lector, a member of the choir, an EMHC member, and a Christian Mother's member. Mr. Vandersnick is a liquid fertilizer manager at Central Valley Ag, is an usher at their church parish, and a third degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Among their many volunteer positions they still find time to open their home and provide Respite Care, as a part of the foster care system.
