Dear CCLT Homeowner, Office pic

I want to first start by saying that our first ever holiday party was a great success, and thank all of you who were able to attend.  We had close to 30 people in attendance, including CCLT Board Members, Outreach Partners, Homeowners and Staff. We all enjoyed good food and good company, and many of you left with door prizes!

If you haven't noticed, Christmas is almost here! Each year I have to remind my nine grandchildren that Christmas is not just a day that they get tons of presents that sometimes get used a couple of times and then forgotten.  The true meaning of Christmas is to recognize what we have, so we can be grateful for it - and share it with others!

My hope is that each of you will have the time to reflect on that meaning, this season.

Included in this issue is an announcement of two new columns we will be introducing in January. The first is tentatively (maybe permanently!) called the "Homeowner Corner". The second new column,   "CCLT Spotlight," will showcase our wonderful homeowners, board members, and outreach partners.

Read on for more details - and the chance to win a $25 Home Depot gift card!

Happy Holidays!  Keep safe!

Until next year,

Teresa Lambarry
CCLT Outreach Director
Featured Article:  Christmas Recipes
Each year I look forward to the holidays because it means I get to spend time with family and friends. One of our favorite things to do when we are together is to bake cookies, cakes and other yummy things to eat.

The following are a couple of my recipes that I thought I would share with you.  Enjoy!

CCLT Homeowner TipYearly Covenant Fee Invoices and Proof of Residency Affidavit

It's that time of year that I usually send out the invoices for the covenant fees and the yearly proof of residency affidavit.  This year, I will mail out the invoices the first week of January.  This way, they will be less likely to get lost or misplaced.  In my mailings I include a stamped self-addressed envelope for you to return not only your paid covenant fee invoice but your annual proof of residency affidavit and documents.

Remember that it is a requirement to pay your covenant fees in a timely manner and also to send back not only the affidavit but the required documents (your homeowner's insurance declaration page and copy of your driver's license or state id as proof of residency).

Get Involved in Your Community
There are so many opportunities to help those less fortunate than yourselves during this time of the year.  It is so rewarding to be able to make someone's holidays a little special.  One suggestion: "adopt" a child or family to buy gifts for. Click here and the United States Postal Service will assign you an adoptee.

Recap of 2013 Holiday Party
One of our homeowners asked us to put together a holiday party this year - and we decided to do just that! The first CCLT Holiday Party took place on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cardozo's Pub.  We ate well and enjoyed each others company tremendously, as you will be able to see from the photos below. Hopefully this will become an annual event that CCLT Board members, homeowners, outreach partners, and staff can enjoy.

Monthly Calendar of Events

Like me, I am guessing that you already have too much to do in December! However, the holidays bring out of town guests, and time off school for the kids - so here are a few events happening around town that you might want to check out:

Model train show

December 14 - 15, 2013

LEGO Train Show & Party features a huge diorama of trains and kids crafts in Wheaton. Free except parking.

Winter WonderFest

Dec. 6, 2013 - Jan. 12, 2014 (closed Dec. 25)

Check out WinterWonder Fest in the

Festival Hall, where Navy Pier becomes an indoor Winter WonderFest for the holidays, with music, carnival rides, and entertainment. Expect crowds. Free entry.

CCLT Homeowner Corner -
NEW COLUMN!

Starting in January, we will be introducing a new  column to our monthly newsletter:

the CCLT  Homeowner Corner!

As you may have noticed, each newsletter has a theme. Starting next year, we'll be asking CCLT homeowners to chime in - a month in advance - on a specific question related to the theme.

We'll publish ALL your responses - and one lucky respondent (drawn at random) will get a Home Depot $25.00 gift certificate.

Next month, the newsletter theme is TAXES!

Our question to you: How do you get ready for tax time? Specifically:

  • How do you get ready for tax season: do you use spreadsheets? folders? shoeboxes?
  • Do you use a tax preparer or do you e-file?
  • Have you ever experienced a "tax nightmare?" What happened?
  • Any other wisdom for your fellow taxpayers

Email Teresa with your responses by Wednesday, January 8:  We'll publish your name and your comments (although we may edit for space considerations).

CCLT Spotlight: NEW COLUMN!

Also starting in January, we will be turning the spotlight on one of our Board members,  Partners, or Homeowners.

Board member - and Chair of the Homebuyer Resource and Marketing Committee - Rob McGhee made the excellent suggestion that we devote some time in the newsletter each month to learning from and about our many wise Board members, homeowners, and partners. From this suggestion was born the CCLT Spotlight!

Tune in next month for our first Spotlight! (and email Teresa if you'd like to be featured).
