cordially invite you to a tribute to

and a discussion of his legacy, with a presentation by:

ADVOCATE THEMBILE JOYINI, LEGAL ADVISOR TO THE MISSION OF SOUTH AFRICA TO THE UNITED NATIONS

Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 6:30 P.M.
at the House of the Bar Association
42 West 44th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenues)

A hero has passed. Nelson Mandela was the father of South African democracy, which he created by leading the struggle for justice with fortitude and commitment to equal rights for all. During his presidency, the South African Constitution, one of the most progressive documents of its kind, was adopted, as were other laws protecting fundamental rights.

This program seeks to both honor Madiba's accomplishments, and also reflect on the legacy of his achievements now that his successors govern. Experts on economics, business and human rights will join the discussion to consider how Mandela's hopes for a "Rainbow Nation" have been realized.
Additional Speakers:
Ngisana Mngomezulu, Esq., participant in the Vance Center's South African Legal Fellows Program;
Vincent Mai, businessman and philanthropist;
Danny Schecter, filmmaker and author; and
Liesl Gernholtz, Human Rights Watch's director of the Women's Rights Division.
Moderator: Elizabeth Barad, Esq., International Law and Gender Consultant
The program is free and open to the public.
